So Xiaofan and I went over the weekend and were able to look at one of the houses listed on craigslist that I sent you all the other day (the other few landlords have still not replied to my emails/calls). The address of the house is 3726 R Street. The landlady's number is
240 381 6047- we told her that a few others of you who live close by might want to see it for yourselves and she said to call anytime and she would try to set up a time with you to do that. That being said I personally was not particularly enthusiastic about the place despite it only being one block from campus. One of the major difficulties was that the house had 4 bedrooms (3 upstairs one in the basement). Two of the rooms (the master bedroom upstairs and the basement room) were generally occupied by 2 people each and were huge, while the two singles were so small pretty much the only piece of furniture that could fit in them would be a bed. Basically having this house would require several people to agree to share rooms which I got the impression no one particularly wanted to do (understandably of course). I also wasn't all that impressed with the house itself or the appliances provided (and we saw a cockroach in the basement- not the best sign). Either way though we said we would get back to the landlady about this soon about whether we were interested so please let me know if you guys want to look for yourself so I can tell her one way or another.
Unfortunately the landlord of the place Javedan suggested in Foxhall Village didn't return my messages either and there was no street address listed on the craigslist ad so we couldn't see that one this weekend although I would have been very interested because it looked awesome. As of right now though, that craigslist ad has been removed and I'm assuming it's because the house is no longer available. I think we should keep our eyes open for houses in that area though because a lot of them seem nice. Anyway I'll keep checking the listings on craigslist etc. and let you guys know of anything promising that comes up hopefully we'll be able to figure something out. It seems like new places become available every day although most of them don't stay available for long so we should try to be really on top of this if something really good comes up. I'm going to be going away until the end of next week but I'll have internet access so I'll definitely keep checking for potential houses regularly and will be in touch. When I get back I'll be heading down to dc to continue the search. If any of you guys find anything please keep me informed!! And also please let me know what you want me to tell the 3726 R Street landlady.
Thanks so much!
Molly
