As the popularity of instant media spreads its way across the globe,
many have asked what are digital cameras, and how do they work? A
digital camera is an electronic device that allows the user to capture
images of their choosing in digital format onto some medium. This is
different than a traditional camera in that it allows the user to
instantly view the results of their photography on an LCD screen and
also provides the ability to easily transfer the photos onto a
computer. A digital camera works in three basic steps: aim, shoot and
download.
First, aiming the camera, works by viewing the desired area to be
photographic from the LCD screen or through a traditional viewing
window located on the back of the camera. Once the desired area is in
focus (automatic in the case of most digital cameras) and the level of
zoom has been chosen, it is time to shoot.
Much like a regular camera on most digital cameras a flash of light
can be triggered on or off. After this decision has been made a button
is pushed that records the desired image in digital format to a memory
card held inside the camera. SD cards, CompactFlash, and Sony memory
sticks are common examples of the medium digital cameras record the
images too. These are easily removable and can be placed into a card
reader allowing the user to view the photos on a computer.
Once the images are transferred from the cameras memory card onto the
computer you can share photos easily with friends through e-mail or
social networking sites. You may be asking yourself about physical
copies of your photos; not to worry, most discount department stores
such as Wal-Mart or Target offer the ability to print digital
photographs off by just supplying the memory stick from the digital
camera.
In conclusion, digital cameras can be found on many types of devices.
Cell phones and audio players are all starting to wear digital cameras
as accessories to help improve their intrinsic value and appeal to the
consumer. The next time someone asks, Digital Cameras, How do they
work? I hope you'll have an educated and enlightening response!
