The CA6 is a radical departure from the earlier versions. Here are some of the biggest differences:
The interface has changed from a screen and buttons on the CA6 to being headless wifi based interface. So you can control the CA6 with almost any device that has wifi and a web browser. Phones, tablets, and laptops have all been tested. Moving away from a dedicated screen and buttons on the CA has allowed a much nicer screen to be used and increased usability since now the CA6 can be in one corner of the room and you can control it. Having remote access has been a big benefit in my testing.
There are many more ports on the CA6. Instead of just 2 cameras or flashes, the CA6 supports 8 cameras or flashes. Instead of 2 sensor ports with 3 control pins on each, there are 4 module ports with 8 pins on each. There is also a 50 pin aux port for future use cases where large scale expansion is needed.
A big focus has been made to make it easier for others to expand the CA6 by making it easier to add support for new modules/sensors and menus.
The software has gone through a complete rewrite based on the experience gatherer from the previous 5 versions. The new software is much more flexible while being easy to use.
Documents with much more information about the CA6 can be found here. If you are interested in lots of the design decision details the CA6 Design Guide is a good one to check out. Right now most of the documentation is focused on ensuring the development proceeded smoothly. In the coming months I'll be releasing more videos about how an end user will use the CA6.
Currently the plan is to release a Kickstarter to allow preorders for the CA6 sometime in 2018.
