I sent  my camera back to canon for repair, but it came back today, still with the same fault. So its gone back again, this time with a lens, grip, batteries and card.

The fault has two modes:
1. Can fail to power up, shows low battery on battery indicator.
2. Can fail to take image. Shutter appears to remain up and camera locks. Guaranteed to occur during a hi speed burst.
Popping the batteries out and then back in allows it to turn on.

has any one any ideas either on the problem, or how I should handle this with canon as I somewhat lost confidence with camera.

regards and help!!  Paul

Paul, are you using genuine Canon Batteries? Has the camera been in a damp place for any time? Are your lens/camera contacts clean? Have you reset the camera by clearing all functions and going back to original settings?

The 7D is one tough camera, I have managed to destroy a 1DMKIII &,1DMKIV but my 7D just keeps on going.

Look at this test.

Yes,  everything is canon.  They replaced the main pcb and performed "general cleanings" so I guess everything should have been ok.  It has now gone back with the lens,  grip and CF  card still in its frozen state. Fingers crossed.

No although the previous day it did get cold up a mountain (2200 m but still 2C) it was very dry.

Seems like issues with moisture getting in there somehow.  Keeping it warm, airing it out, typically is the best solution.  If it continued to have issues for power, there maybe damage on contacts, etc.  All speculation until someone can look at the board and other components.

Canon replaced the main pcb but the fault continued as old and corrupt data transferred to new board. They have cleaned the data out and are currently soak testing.  So keeping my fingers crossed.
Paul.
