We already have 6 addresses signed up to join in the new Green Camelot group. Won't you consider joining us? We be discussing sustainability issues such as water, energy, transportation, and waste. The inspiration for this group is based in part on Transition Streets (from the Transition movement); see http://www.transitionstreets.org.uk/ for more information. We'll meet monthly on Saturdays at 1pm in members’ homes between January and July 2014 (optional brown bag lunch at 12:30, child care available). Our first group will be January 11 at 1pm at the Lehmachers (232 King's Way). Groups will include some teaching, a chance to share ideas and brainstorm, and opportunities to get to know your neighbors better. Each month we'll discuss different ways to save. We also offer incentives such as a plant give away or a meal of locally grown foods.
Here’s your first incentive! Gerald Lehmacher is offering thermal imaging of your home to determine where you can make improvements to save energy this winter. You're not required to attend the Green Camelot group to get the thermal imaging photos but preference will be given to Green Camelot participants; only 10-20 homes will be able to participate. It is not required to get thermal images to participate in the Green Camelot group. Here are the details from Gerald:
As a service learning project for my class at
Clemson University, Physics of Climate, I plan to offer thermal imaging of
homes in Camelot. Thermal imaging can reveal heat leaks, for example, near
windows and doors, or because of missing insulation.
For best contrast, thermal imaging should be done during a cold night in the
heating period, which would be last weeks of the fall semester. We can probably
take infrared images of 10-15 homes during one night and send them to you by
email with a brief assessment.
If you are interested in seeing your home "glow in the dark,” please email
gle...@clemson.edu. Please indicate if you would like images from a
certain side or detail, which would require walking on your driveway or behind
the house. I will inform you on
short notice of the date and time.
So sign up today to join our first Green Camelot group by replying to this email or by notifying any of us listed below. If you have any suggestions for or questions about the group, please contact us.
