Camelot failing to start

Hello,

I am using the animal detection software in Camelot to filter out images of animals from camera trapping. I recently moved the computer I have been using to a different location and connected to the original network via my institutions VPN, but when it proved too slow to use (presumably due to distance/network connectivity issues) I moved it back; however, now that I have it back in place and connected to the original network, Camelot will not start (see attached file). It may also be worth mentioning that I installed Camelot on a different drive on the network rather than on the local machine due to disk size constraints.

I have checked the System logs and copied what it says there (see attached file). I have seen elsewhere that people have needed to delete various files to overcome similar issues, but wanted to check whether this was what I needed before I proceeded. I would like to restore Camelot's functionality without losing any progress on the animal detection front if possible, as the detection software has been working on my images for over a month now and I do not have time to repeat this.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Calum & Mahalia

Hi Calum,

Camelot is reporting the database is already in use (potentially by another copy of Camelot).  Before doing the below operations, make sure you have a backup of your database folder.

Given the database has been copied around, it's possible this is not correct and that it was merely copied at a time it was in use.  If so, you should be able to remove two files in the Database folder:

* db.lck
* dbex.lck

Then try starting Camelot again.

Hi Chris and Calum,
I had a very similar problem. I have been using megadetector separately with the timelapse software, but need a better data management solution - something Camelot seemed poised to offer. I created a survey, entered my camera stations, filled in some camera details and uploaded some data as a test. It was all looking good and I was excied to try it in earnerst. I realised I should have set up a dataset on the portable hardrive I am using for the project, rather than the default internal storage. I went to set ip a new dataset, following the documentation, copied my media over, and restarted.

Camelot wouldn't open with this new dataset and I had a look at the system log and noticed a 'database already in use' error. I tried to change it back to the original settings but now can't get it to reopen at all.

I've tried the fix above (deleting the files) to no avail. That said I seem to be getting a different error now.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Camelot but this hasn't made a difference either.

It looks like a great program, and I would like to get it working, but I'm running into some funny quirks. For example, I couldn't paste coordinate data into my camera info fields, I had to type it. It turns out I can't copy from Camelot either. I am unable to copy the system log showing the error info, and when I open the log file in a text editor there's just a couple of characters.

Any advice?

Thankyou

Gabrielle

Hi all,

I reread back through the old threads, and found a suggestion for a classic fix, restarting your computer. It worked!

Thanks fo rall the support you provide here Chris.
Cheers,
G.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your help. I backed up the database folder and then deleted db.lck from the original. I couldn't find dbex.lck in the database folder, where would that be? Camelot is still failing to load. The current system files are attached.

I also checked that Camelot isn't open on any other computers. Camelot is installed on my university homedrive as I am using nearly 4TB of photos and it was the only place with enough space to put them all. It hasn't been copied since I started using it, although I did manage to access it from home via the university VPN.

Thank you so much for your help.

Kind regards,
Mahalia (from Calum's account)

Hi Calum,

Thanks for that. The animal detection file also appears to be corrupted in the process of copying.

Within the Camelot folder, please remove the files containing your email address in the filename and ending in ".edn".  Animal detection will re-process some files but the process should be transparent.

Hi Chris,

Thanks! That sorted it. The detection window is starting fresh but the previous detections appear to still exist.

Thanks for your help,
Calum and Mahalia
