Hello,

My student and I are still new to Camelot. We just realized, while she had all the raw photos on an external hard drive, the database and other Camelot data were being stored somewhere on her computer. Unfortunately, the path that is being used in Camelot doesn't seem to exist on her computer. If she were to change the paths in Camelot, would that redirect all the information onto the external hard drive? Optionally, if we can find the folders that seem hidden, would we be able to copy them over to the external hard drive without losing all her work?

Any information or reading material would be greatly appreciated.  We are trying to solve this issue before transferring everything to a new external drive on a shared computer.

Thank you for your assistance,

Sincerely,
J.B.

Hi,

I think this page of the project Docs has helpful information regarding data storage: https://camelot-project.readthedocs.io/en/latest/datasets.html

From my understanding Camelot will select the user/AppData/Local directory by default to create media, database, etc. These folders might appear hidden and for me copy-pasting the file path in the file explorer address bar works. As for changing the paths in Camelot, Camelot would not move the data. Therefore, it would have to be moved manually onto the external hard drive.

Thank you,

Bijit

Hi J.B.
Bijit is correct. The /AppData/Local folder is where the default directories are installed. Often /AppData is a hidden folder...

Here’s how to show hidden folders etc. in Windows 7 (see below for Windows 10).

  1. Go to Windows Explorer.
  2. Open the C: drive.
  3. Click Organize on the menu bar.
  4. Select Folder and Search options.
  5. Select the View tab.
  6. Under Files and Folders > Hidden files and folders, select the option to Show hidden files, folders and drives.
  7. Click OK.

Windows 10:

  1. Go to Explorer.
  2. Open the C: drive.
  3. Click View on the menu bar.
  4. Click the Options icon. (If you click the small arrow below it instead, choose Change Folder and Search options).
  5. Select the View tab.
  6. Under Files and Folders > Hidden files and folders, select the option to Show hidden files, folders and drives.
  7. Click OK.

Camelot does not move the folders.... you have to manually move them.
Please take a backup BEFORE moving!
Regards
Heidi
