Hi Chris,

We are busy looking at different platforms for automatic wildlife detection from camera traps.

Would you mind providing some documentation around how to get started with wildlife detection on camelot?

Regards,
Innes

Hi Innes,

Unfortunately Camelot is no longer able to provide wildlife detection
directly. We did have this running for some time with partnership with
Microsoft, however Microsoft disbanded the team approx. 2 years
back. There is no longer any ready integration between Camelot and
wildlife detection model.

That said, Barry Brook and colleagues have had some success integrating
MegaDetector with Camelot again, and there is a pre-print of that work
available here: https://ecoevorxiv.org/repository/view/6405/

Hope that helps,

Thanks Chris. Yes, you might want to try MEWC, which integrates with Camelot for MegaDetector and also for species classification. It's designed to be straightforward to implement, is an open-source project, and is continuing to improve (some new updates coming soon).

Hi all,

When using MEWC, is the only way to incorporate its outputs into Camelot by doing a 'bulk import'? This would require a new survey be made each time I want to incorporate results. How does the integration with Camelot work?

Thanks,
Hannah

Hannah, are you just using MegaDetector with MEWC, or have you also trained your own species classifier?

If the former, then each of your images will have a red box around the detected animals, and when you upload these to Camelot, the red boxes will be visible. Just upload them as you normally would.

If you have trained your own classifier, then you can get Camelot to show the images for a particular species using the method described in the EcoEvoRxiv paper. But I'd be also happy to explain it here, if you really are up to this stage. I'd also love to hear more about how your model training went.

cheers,
Barry
