Dear Mr.Athul,

ViaGreen has initiated a training programme with all our clients to improvise the existing waste segregation practices followed by the members of the society and the housekeeping  . Currently our resource recovery is only about 30-40% as source segregation is not followed sincerely by the members . Did you know 90% of the resource can recovered and recycled if source segregation is implemented and only 10% of your waste will become part of the landfills which is reject waste such masks, diapers, sanitary , broken glass, batteries , bio medical waste of any kind .

By following source segregation :

1.      The society can take the benefit from the BMC for rebate on property tax bills

2.      Maximize resource recovery to 90% and reduce the waste going to the landfill to 10%

3.      Improve the quality of life your garbage collection man , workers on site by implementing waste segregation

To achieve 100% source segregation

1.      the waste needs to segregated in three categories wet, dry and reject for which all members have keep 3 bins at their house .

2.      Uniform colour coding system of the bins has to be followed ( Green for Wet,  Blue for Dry and Red for Reject)

3.      Stop using the plastic lining for the bins

4.      Reject waste which is biomedial waste needs to wrapped in newspaper/paper bag before disposing the same in the Red bin .

5.      All food containers, plastic boxes, jars , bottles , milk bags etc should be rinsed and cleaned with water before discarding them in the Blue bin

To train the house keeping , manager and members we propose the following campaign :

1.      We will post some informative creatives on your notice board, in elevators etc

2.      Train the housekeeping and manager about their role and responsibilities , please find attached herewith the daily record sheet to be maintained by the housekeeping

3.      To explain the members the new guidelines will we require a few volunteers , who can communicate and follow up with the rest of the members through watsapp msg/call or visiting them however convenient . ViaGreen will be providing certificates for participation to the volunteer and some upcycled products.

4.      We will be sharing posts with these volunteers and the manager regularly so the same can be forwarded to the members .

Your Waste is your Responsibility ! Let’s together do our bit , every time we are about to dump something in the bin, think of it as a Resource not just as Waste !

Regards,

Pooja

Subject: Make Camellia Co-operative housing society ltd eligible for a 10% Property tax rebate, by implementing source segregation of waste as per MCGM guidelines

To,

Managing Committee,

Sub: - Make your society eligible for a 10% property tax rebate, by adhering to Supreme Court’s directions on new SWM rules, on source segregation implementation.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change came up with the new Solid Waste Management Rules (SWM). As per the new rules, all individuals must segregate their waste into three categories – Biodegradables, Dry Waste (plastic, paper, metal, wood etc.) and Domestic Hazardous Waste (diapers, napkins, mosquito repellents, cleaning agents) before they hand it over to the waste collectors.

ViaGreen (M/s AN Usedless Paper Pvt. Ltd.) is an environmental services company offering waste management services to 400+ societies who are bulk generators of waste in Mumbai and therefore MCGM has asked ViaGreen to formulate a plan and work closely with all the residential societies where ViaGreen is current offering collection services to implement 100% source segregation of waste.

As per the directions issued by MCGM, ViaGreen is required to submit an action plan and periodic status report of Segregation levels achieved.

To comply with the above directions, ViaGreen has formed a dedicated team of skilled professionals to support its clients in bringing in a behavioural change of implementing source segregation at their homes.

To push ethical waste disposal, MCGM also floated a GR: Sd/-23.12.2020 attached herewith, wherein they have offered societies that are successful in segregating waste a 10% tax rebate (5% for doing source segregating & 5% for processing the waste through authorized waste management companies) on their property tax bills. ViaGreen, being your waste partners would act as an enabler and would like your Society to benefit from this opportunity. We urge you to kindly cooperate with us in implementing source segregation thereby making your Society eligible for the rebate.

ViaGreen seeks your permission to reach out to individual households in the society and carry out the work relating to the project to implement source segregation.

ViaGreen plan of action

  1. Poster campaign creating awareness about source segregation (to be displayed in the Society premises - near the lift, lobby area or to be sent in society Whatsapp/ Telegram/ my gate groups) [15-20 days campaign]
  2. Source segregation training either through a webinar or in person.
    1. Run through the source segregation training module. [30-45 mins slot]
    2. Introduce a Society waste management manual which will define SOP & responsibilities [refer to the link attached for implementing society waste management manual as per MCGM guidelines https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QQl_rtHfpoM2JvpzIxyQngl0wH70OJIy?usp=sharing

                                                               i.      For Managing Committee

                                                             ii.      For Residents.

iii.      For Responsibilities of Housekeeping staff.

                                                           iv.      For clubhouse

                                                             v.      For new move-in flats

  1. Waste monitoring: Timely waste audits to be conducted by ViaGreen staff as well as by the “society waste management volunteers” group. Reports to be shared by ViaGreen about defaulter flats with the society MC.
  2. Guidance with the procedure to become eligible for the rebate and the procurement of the certificate from MCGM

We look forward to your support in implementing the same at the earliest. Let us know good time to call to discuss the same.

Sincerely,

Pooja Manihar
