Hi all,
Here is information about the upcoming Mt. Washington weekend
Friday
night's talk with Heidi Holman will be at the AMC Highland Center at
Crawford Notch at 8pm.
Highland Center is off of Route 302. Accommodations are still available
at AMC Highland
Center, and other budget friendly options are also available.
Friday
night’s presentations will be followed by setting up a sheet
next to Highland Center! Ideally, we can meet and make
plans
Friday
night while we learn about the local insect biodiversity!
Saturday and
Sunday’s outings have yet to be determined.
For
anyone who is committed to participate in the weekend’s
presentations, outings and explorations, please email or text Scott
Smyers
smy...@oxbowassociates.com
or
978-314-6027.
Scott will send you a link to a Googlesheet where we can share contact
information possible carpooling, and priorities for
searching for insects each day and night.
We
can also make sure to match
people with experience hiking in the White Mountains with those less
experienced to make sure everyone is prepared to minimize risk and
maximize enjoyment. However, there are many places that do not require
extensive backcountry experience that can be accessed by driving and
less strenuous hikes in the Mount Washington area. Possible hikes
include the following:
• Cherry Pond Wildlife Management Area in Jefferson
• Saco River
• Frankenstein Cliffs
• Mt Willard/Mt. Avalalon
• Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to Lakes of the Clouds (3 mile hike)
• Night Lights at Highland Center, Cog Railway, Mt. Washington Hotel
