Join us for a meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club!

Date: Tuesday, February 11th 7:30 PM EST
Location: In Person in MCZ101A, or on Zoom
Title: Visual assisted guidance reveals novel fly-object interactions
Speaker: Liz Clifton
Image preview

Summary: My PhD began as a Masters project testing models of human warfare in tropical termites. I evaluated Lanchester's Laws, which focus on group size and group fighting ability to determine the winner of a battle, by creating conflict between termite groups of various sizes and abilities. From that work, I expanded my studies to include an assessment of the evolution of defense in termites, from the architecture of their nests to the physical forms of "weapons" in termite soldiers. In this talk, I will share my fascination with termite "warfare" and how it may relate to the larger ideas of phenological and behavioral evolution.

NOTICE: We will be holding hybrid meetings to accommodate COVID-19 precautions and audience members from around the world. You can join our Zoom meeting by clicking here.

For those able to attend, we will have an informal dinner at 6:00 pm at Cambridge Common Restaurant with the speaker, followed by our formal meeting (7:30 - 9:00 pm) in room MCZ101A of the Museum of Comparative Zoology (there will be signs to help direct). The meeting will begin with club announcements, followed by a 60-minute presentation by the invited speaker and Q&A. Membership is open to amateur and professional entomologists - that means everyone!

Dear Michael,
My name is Peter Kuper and I've been teaching a graphic novel course at Harvard since 2011.
I am about to come out with a book on the history of Insects and the people who have studied them through the centuries.
I'll be doing a signing and presentation at the Harvard Bookstore on June 2nd.
I hope that members will join me there and I'd appreciate it if you would share this with your group.
best,
Peter
