Friday morning, Tom and I are thinking of doing a repeat of a route I ran last winter between Cambridge and Walden Pond. It's not for the faint of heart, as it involves some route-finding and bushwhacking and an early wake-up call to give enough time to
catch the train home (we're aiming to be back in Cambridge by 10am).
We'd take the commuter rail back from Lincoln or Concord. Of course others could aim for a later return train if they wanted to run slower or further. My guess is we'd start around 6 or 6:30am and aim for 8 minute miles.
The idea is to maximize the amount of time spent on trails and minimize road mileage. I think we managed 12 miles of trails and only 4.5 miles of roads last year. The trails are nicely wooded and not nearly as rocky or hilly as the Fells.
Email if interested!
