The warm summer rain made our run in the fells this morning quite an adventure.  I was warm and soaked in a long sleeve polypro, Karen stayed drier in a quickdry top and waterproof jacket.  Beaker had his coat.

The gates were closed when we arrived at 6:20, but we easily a place to park outside.

Beaker led most of the time and handled the route-finding, I did some basic navigation with Karen and we found an easy pace along the skyline trail for a few miles.

Words used to describe the trail run at the end -
"Invigorating, soft, wet and beautiful"

Logistics:
Driving to the fells from Cambridgeport takes one song from Journey, KISS and Bon Jovi.  The trail was wet rocky and puddled..  We easily made it back to Cambridge by 8am.  We ran the skyline trail from the South Border parking lot

I expect similar conditions tomorrow morning and am shooting for the flatter trails around the reservoirs which should have better footing and easier puddle pounding.

call/email if you'd like to come.

Hey all,

I'll be taking regular morning trips to run in the Middlesex Fells/blue hills areas before the sun hits too hard starting saturday and going until June 17th.  The plan is to get some fun miles in outside the city, in the dirt.

I'll be driving from Central Square around 6am and have 4 seats.  I'm also happy to take people who want to run their own pace and want a carpool.

email if you want to come on a particular day.

I just went for run at the Fells as well (I'm not really a morning person) and it was absolutely lovely. Went with Bri and our dog to the Sheepfold entrance and ran around one of the big lakes up there (about 2-3 miles I think). The running was incredible but the best part was swimming afterward - the water is pristine and there are rocks to jump off from. Highly, highly recommended given it's only 10 minutes from Somerville.

I'll be sure to post on this list next time - I could offer rides from Cambridge/Somerville for those of you who'd rather have your toenails pulled out than go running at 6:20am ;)

Agree, the fells were beautiful today, i went to sheepfold as well and caught the sea smoke rising from the lake in the am.  Swimming next time for sure.

FYI, It sounds like you were swimming in the reservoir that serves Winchester. From the DCR Fells website:
  • No Trespassing on Town of Winchester Water Supply Lands! Do not hike, walk or ride on trails or roads posted as no public access by the Town of Winchester.
  • Fire, camping, swimming, and motorized vehicles are not allowed in the Fells.

Personally, I don't care but thought you should know.

If you want to go swimming I suggest Wright's Pond, which is technically on Medford town land. It is supposed to be for Medford residents only, but nothing is stopping you from parking down the road and running/walking in.
