Call for Applicants - Transnational Feminisms & Women's Activism
EGEP is a two-week residential educational program that takes place twice a year (summer and winter) offered by Ewha Womans University. As stipulated in the MOU between Ewha Womans University and the UN Women, this 7th EGEP aims to promote education for women and gender equality in Asia by empowering women working in non-governmental public sectors and by nourishing the next generation of women leaders.
Despite continued efforts toward gender equality and sustainable development by women’s activists and international institutions, including the UN Women, violence against women is still rampant, posing a serious threat to human rights. Violence against women varies from typical and manifest phenomena, such as sexual violence, domestic violence, prostitution, discrimination against sexual minorities, child marriage, and war rape, and to everyday and conventional forms like commercials commodifying women’s bodies. Moreover, with the deepening of economic globalization, polarization, and the growth-oriented industrialization, violence against women has been taking on a transnational scope, demanding a transnational solution, based on women’s solidarity across national borders.
Indeed, EGEP is a platform for education, knowledge production and practices by and for women activists who are challenging and changing the world. We expect many women activists to apply for this program.
Program Goals On completing this program, participants will have:
improved their theoretical knowledge and practical capacities from a gender perspective;
broadened their understanding of women’s lives, women’s issues, and human rights in Asian context; and
strengthened their leadership capacities to build women’s solidarity and make change in local, national, and transnational contexts.
Programs While a more specific EGEP curriculum will be provided separately, the following are the major activities that participants may expect from the program:

Action Plans
Social Hours
Study Tours to Korean NGOs
Cultural Events
Eligibility With minimum three years of experience, women activists who are working in international and national non-governmental public sectors in Asia, such as NGOs, NPOs, civil society organizations, including individuals who are working independently and are interested in various issues on violence against women or human rights, may apply for this program.
Number of Participants: 20~25
Selection Criteria The selection committee will evaluate the applicants based on the following criteria:
field experience 25%
expertise in women’s issues 25%
potential as next generation of women leaders 25%
contribution to the community 25%

Language English is the official language of the EGEP.
Funding Ewha Womans University provides funding to cover fees for the tuition, accomodations, and a two-week allowance for all the participants. Funds for a roundtrip airfare in economy class will be awarded only to the participants from ODA beneficiary countries. No other costs, such as visa fee or domestic transformation, will be covered by Ewha.
