THE TEFL / TESOL PROGRAM

The HEART of the program is a specially designed 144 hour TEFL / TESOL
course that combines what we feel are the essentials of what you need
to become an effective Teacher and to successful in your new country.
The program has an academic class work component, a foreign language
component, and a teaching practice component.

Let's walk through the program and see what you will be doing on a day
to day basis.

During the first two weeks of class week, your time will be dedicated
to academics. We want to you have a solid base so that at the
beginning of the third week, you are ready to begin student teaching.
The day starts at 9 AM and the day is broken up into four two hour
teaching segments with breaks and lunch as appropriate. Topics covered

The third and fourth weeks the schedule changes dramatically. First
class session of the day is language training. Second session varies
between language practicum and project development time, while the
third and fourth sessions of the day center around lesson planning,
lesson development, materials development and the conducting of actual
classes. You will be expected to teach as many as twenty hours of time
with "real" students. You will have additional time to go over your
plans, and your previous days presentation with LanguageCorps staff.

With the above as a basic framework, there are a number of PROGRAM
OPTIONS that are available to fit individual needs and backgrounds.

CAMBODIA TEFL / TESOL

Our school works with U.S. Colleges and Universities to identify
college graduates interested in traveling abroad for a learning and
experience program beginning with a full Certification TEFL / TESOL
course and ending in job placement in countries in need of English
teachers. The school is a member of NACE (National Association of
Colleges and Employers) and has been approved by other member schools
(i.e. Ohio State University, Purdue, Harvard, Yale, Tufts University,
University of North Carolina, Duke University and many others) for on
campus recruitment for our TESOL programs.

Education Pannasastra University Cambodia

The primary Asian training facility is located on campus at
Pannasastra University of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. Theour TEFL / TESOL
program has been approved by the University for issuance of advanced
placement and graduate credit towards its M.Ed. TEFL / TESOL program.
Pannasastra is a member of the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia for
Higher Education, which certifies credit and degree granting
institutions in Cambodia and is itself a member of the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation in Washington D.C., the accreditation
body for the regional accreditation of US colleges and Universities.
Through this linkage of accreditation authorities, credits and
programs from Pannasastra are transferable and accepted at Accredited
Institutions of Higher Education world wide.

In addition, in order to best provide for language teacher training in
remote areas of the world without needless duplication of services, we
work in mutually cooperative association with other TEFL / TESOL
providers including: World TEFL School, Bridge LinguaTec, CACTUS TEFL,
and others.

LanguageCorps offers comprehensive programs of training, placement and
logistical support for talented people interested in travel,
internationalism, and teaching abroad.

VOLUNTEERING IN CAMBODIA

Volunteer Program Overview

Our Volunteer Program has been carefully crafted to ensure that your
experience is as rewarding and enjoyable as possible - for you, and
for your students. The 8 week program includes 2 weeks of abbreviated
TEFL / TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
training at our training center in Phnom Penh. You will spend 6 weeks
teaching and changing lives at one of the LanguageCorps' partner
orphanages or schools. In your free time you can enjoy cultural
dinners with your peers, trips to the beach and countryside, and all
the experiences a country as foreign and unique as Cambodia has to
offer.

Location & Where You'll Be Teaching

Phnom Penh is the home of our combined training facility, which hosts
the initial training for participants in all the LanguageCorps Asia
programs. This facility is the result of a unique partnership between
LanguageCorps and Pannasastra University. Volunteer accommodations are
provided in a villa or guesthouse in central Phnom Penh near the

to sights and amenities, and is approximately 10-12 minutes from the
University and the center of town. Teaching assignments will be at a
LanguageCorps affiliated orphanage or school, where you will be
working with children or young adults. Most of the students are
fifteen or younger, and are eager for the opportunity to learn English
- which they may then leverage into jobs as English teachers, working
in Tourism, or other professions such as computer science.

Volunteer Language and Culture Program

The first 2 weeks of the program will be spent in basic TEFL / TESOL
training. This course will give you many of the skills and experiences
necessary to make your teaching adventure a successful one. As part of
the training process, you will be taught some of the basics of
Cambodian language and culture, further acclimating you to your new
environment. With the groundwork for success laid, you will be ready
to move on to your 6 week teaching assignment. Transportation is
provided to and from your teaching assignment. This program was
designed to allow you to spend the bulk of your time teaching, rather
than in training. However, if you wish to take the full four week
training course and achieve TEFL / TESOL certification, please speak
with your LanguageCorps representative. You will still be able to
volunteer part-time during training, and we'd be happy to work with
you to extend your teaching assignment.

Job Placement
Following your 2 weeks of classroom work and travel in Phnom Penh, you
continue on to China to finish your TEFL / TESOL training and practice
teaching in the location where you will ultimately work. Your teaching
position will be at one of our affiliated schools in Shenzhen,
Guangzhou, Shanghai, or Beijing. Job assignments rely heavily on your
individual qualifications and preferences, which we always seek to
accommodate. China’s complex systems of city-specific regulations and
work permits can complicate things, but you will be advised of your
specific job options before you commit to the TeachChina program.
These prescribed options are for your protection, as the consequences
of violating local laws can be significant: it is not unheard of for
teachers working illegally to be expelled from the country! To ensure
that this does not happen, LanguageCorps only places participants at
schools that conform to local laws.

THE TEFL / TESOL PROGRAM

The HEART of the program is a specially designed 144 hour TEFL / TESOL
course that combines what we feel are the essentials of what you need
to become an effective Teacher and to successful in your new country.
The program has an academic class work component, a foreign language
component, and a teaching practice component.

Let's walk through the program and see what you will be doing on a day
to day basis.

During the first two weeks of class week, your time will be dedicated
to academics. We want to you have a solid base so that at the
beginning of the third week, you are ready to begin student teaching.
The day starts at 9 AM and the day is broken up into four two hour
teaching segments with breaks and lunch as appropriate. Topics covered

The third and fourth weeks the schedule changes dramatically. First
class session of the day is language training. Second session varies
between language practicum and project development time, while the
third and fourth sessions of the day center around lesson planning,
lesson development, materials development and the conducting of actual
classes. You will be expected to teach as many as twenty hours of time
with "real" students. You will have additional time to go over your
plans, and your previous days presentation with LanguageCorps staff.

With the above as a basic framework, there are a number of PROGRAM
OPTIONS that are available to fit individual needs and backgrounds.
