Sonic Speed Simulator[a] is a massively multiplayer online incremental platform game developed and published by Gamefam, under license and in association with Sega of America,[1] and serves as an official entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise on the gaming and game development platform Roblox. The gameplay involves moving around and collecting Chaos Orbs to level up and increase speed and jumping power.

The player walks around and collects Chaos Orbs and rings around a world (map). While walking around gives them XP, collecting Chaos Orbs gives more XP to help them level up, which then increases their speed and jumping power. The maximum XP earned per level increases with the level. Other ways to earn XP are by running and jumping through Sky Rings, completing quests and Time Trials (challenges that involve passing through spawned checkpoints and reaching the goal within a world as fast as possible), and buying from in-game shops. At any time, the player can rebirth, which resets the player's speed, power, and level, but returns Skill Points, which can be used to buy permanent upgrades.

Initially, the player's character is their Roblox avatar, but they can obtain Sonic characters to play as by completing Quests and limited-time event objectives, collecting cards,[1][2][3][4] redeeming codes, and purchasing them for a limited time.

Trails and pets, which give upgradeable benefits,[5][6] are obtained through spending rings on vending machines and completing Quests, event objectives, and Time Trials. Trails and pets can be leveled up at Upgrade Machines with rings, Red Star Rings, or both, and identical ones can be fused together into "Evolved" forms.

Sonic Speed Simulator was announced and released in closed beta on April 13, 2022, requiring 50 Robux for access to play, before being fully released as free to play three days later on April 16, 2022.[7] The game had 70 million plays[8] and 275,000 concurrent players in the first week of its release, which made its launch Roblox's largest. It went on to reach 500 million visits in its first four months. Joe Ferencz, the CEO of Gamefam, described it as "the No. 1 branded game of all time on Roblox".[9]

During the Sonic Central 2022 presentation shown on June 7, it was announced that a new area of Chemical Plant Zone would be released on June 11. Additionally, a code for the Amy Chao was unveiled and became available later that same day.[10]

On February 26, 2023, a new feature was added to the game, known as "Auto Run", where the player automatically runs around the entire map, and collects rings and XP without any control over their character. Many players expressed disappointment with this update, citing the slower pace, not being able to jump or go side-to-side, and the rewards system as downsides.[11]

From December 10 through December 16, 2022, players could attend a special early screening of the then-upcoming first episode of the Sonic Prime television series before its initial Netflix debut. To promote the event, Gamefam, Sega, Netflix, and WildBrain Studios partnered with Roblox Corporation by allowing users the ability to earn Nine's Mechanical Arms in the form of a virtual UGC accessory.[13][14][15]

Throughout the month of December 2022, several allegations were brought up by numerous ex-employees who had worked on the game and raised concerns online in regards to Gamefam crunching and underpaying, as well as laying off some of their employees before the holiday season without much warning, which was against the contract. As a result, many concerned fans began using the hashtag #SonicSweatshopSimulator on Twitter in an effort to bring attention to allegations. In response, the company began banning users from the Sonic Speed Simulator's Discord server who mentioned the issues[16] and published a statement denying the allegations.[17]

Alan Wen's review on Eurogamer was positive and praised the 3D, open-world gameplay, stating that Sonic Speed Simulator is "probably the most polished experience to have graced Roblox so far", but criticized the progression, obstacle courses, and race minigame, finding the progression to be unsatisfying and race minigame as too basic and lag-inducing.[18]

Sonic Speed Simulator is a spinoff of the Sonic the Hedgehog series based on the Roblox development platform. It was licensed by Sega to Gamefam Studios, which includes fangame developers such as the creator of Sonic Onset Adventure. After a paid beta period on March 2022, it was released for free on the 16th of April of the same year.

The game starts out on a sandbox-like Hub Level based on Green Hill Zone. At first, players can only move around at a jogging pace but by collecting crystals they can fill out their experience gauge and raise their speed. As they become faster, they'll be able to rack up combos while collecting crystals, move past loopings and leap off ramps to collect bonus items and gain levels more and more efficiently. This goes on until reaching the level Cap, after which players can start over with a higher limit and a potential for comically high and uncontrollable speeds. This game contains the following tropes:

  • Alternate Self:
  • There are several alternate versions of the playable characters from the Shatter Space.
  • The three versions of Team Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog (film series).
  • ESP Silver is not the current timeline's Silver, but the one from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
  • Ascended Meme: During the 2022 birthday event, a hidden graffiti on Green Hill reads "Santiago is GONE", referring to the developers doing their best to model a good-looking Japanese-style Classic Sonic so that it doesn't come off as a "Santiago". That is a meme that criticizes the look of Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces as unfaithful enough to his portrayal in the Mega Drive era that he might as well be considered a different guy.
  • The Bus Came Back: The game brings back the Shadow Androids, using their updated colored designs from the Sonic IDW comics.
  • Boss-Only Level: The Metal Madness event requires players to beat Metal Sonic in a race at Stardust Speedway. Their speed is equalized with Metal Sonic's, though bonuses from a equipped Chao will still apply.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: Players can exchange Robux, the virtual currency of Roblox, for more advantages.
  • Cap: The speed level first caps out at 50, which unlocks the Rebirth function. It will reset the player's level while raising the cap by 25 and adding an experience multiplier.
  • Easter Egg: On Green Hill Zone, a golden statue of Sonic can be found within a hidden cave. Various developer messages and stickers of characters like Eggman can also be found at certain corners.
  • Hub Level: Green Hill contains gates to all of the other zones in the game that are unlocked by clearing certain conditions.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • One of the character skins is of Knuckles wearing the hat from his OVA incarnation. Both Sonic and Tails also have costumes based on plushes sold in the nineties, while Amy has a chef outfit based on a Sonic Channel illustration.
  • Summer Amy's outfit is based on the swimsuit she wore in episode 9 of Sonic X. The Summer Sonic variant is also wearing the shell bracelet Amy made for him in the same episode.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: There's no story in the game.
  • Play Every Day: The game contains periodic rewards and timed events to draw people in.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: All the game's music is taken from previous entries in the series.
  • Score Multiplier: The more crystals you collect in a row, the more points they'll be worth. More multipliers are granted by rebirthing and equipping both a Chao and a speed trail.
  • Secret Character: Players start out as their default Roblox avatar and must unlock everyone else including Sonic by finding hidden cards or completing certain tasks. Most of them are skins that only affect properties (such as add Magnetism or increased power). A few characters may have a double jump, gliding, or flight.
  • Wide-Open Sandbox: Every zone is an open field to run around in, with no enemies or hazards.

The Blue Blur is now speeding through the land of Roblox! Sonic Speed Simulator lets you gear up as one of the many beloved Sonic characters to speed around familiar worlds inspired by previous Sonic titles.

Collecting Chao pets and Trails as you speed around Green Hills can take a while, but that's where Sonic Speed Simulator codes come in. They give you free Chaos and Boosts, helping you get more Rings, which you can then spend at the vending machines throughout the worlds, giving you EXP, free Trails and more free Chaos. Codes are released regularly to celebrate major milestones for the game and around most updates too. So, as you would do with other Roblox games, make sure to check back here regularly to see what's new.

If you successfully redeem a code, a small pop-up will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen that tells you you've managed to redeem it. If you can't redeem the code, it's highly likely it is expired.

The Cassini spacecraft is on its journey to Saturn to perform a close-up study of the Saturnian system; its rings, moons, magneto-sphere, and the planet itself. Sequences of commands will be sent to the spacecraft by ground personnel to control every aspect of the mission. To validate and verify these command sequences, a bit-level, high-speed simulator (HSS) has been developed. To maximize performance, the HSS is implemented with multiple threads and runs on a multiprocessor system. A key component of the HSS is the scheduler, which controls the execution of the simulator. The general framework of the scheduler can be adapted to solve a wide variety of scheduling problems. The architecture of the scheduler is presented first, followed by a discussion of issues related to performance and multiple threads. Second, the avoidance of deadlocks and race conditions is discussed and an informal proof for the absence of both in the scheduler is described. Finally, a study of various scheduling policies is provided
