The booth at Tesco Newmarket Rd was broken - or at least I couldn't persuade it to work. Went over to Boots, who DO passport photos, but not in a booth - they take a picture with a camera. This has several disadvantages, one of which is that they didn't make my head capture enough of the frame, so it didn't meet the passport spec. Fortunately I measured it before I sent it off, but still a pain having to go back.

I've edited the wiki to show the availability of passport photos at Boots, NM road, but not the negative recommendation, as I think I;m not supposed to put my own views in recommendations?

The kiosk in the bit of Lion Yard by Great St Andrew's Church that also does
keys does passport photos for a very reasonable price. We got my
granddaughter's there.

For those for whom it is appropriate, there is a little photo developing
outfit (that will print off digital images to real photographic prints)
that also does passport style photos, in Newmarket high street, which if
you have car and are on the right side of town is often quicker than
mucking around in Cambridge town centre..

When I was working in the business park it certainly was (quicker).

Future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early
twenty-first century’s developed world went into hysterical panic over a
globally average temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and,
on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer
projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to
contemplate a rollback of the industrial age.

Yes - we've used them for baby passports as they are very good at taking a photo that you give them and editing them to appear on an appropriate background at an appropriate size.

So a + from me for them. In my case I wanted the bog standard service, but ended up wasting a lot of time. For reference

Tesco was £5 but didn't work
Boots was £5.99 - and worked second time.

Got my India visa photographs done there a few years ago, he knows what
he's doing.

I agree, they are by far the most competent franchise for doing various
ID photos and knowing what the different requirements are [not all are
identical specs to a UK passport].

Timpsons claim to do the same, but have failed when we tried.

Seconded. Very good with kids, too. They had no problems coping with a
stubborn toddler and a very lively 4-5 year old when we had their
passport pics done. They're not bad with adults, too. :)
