Does anyone know of where I might be able to buy a good chess board and or
pieces in Cambridge? I've been to both Robert Sayles and that Tobacconists
shop, the name of which I cant remember, but neither had anything suitable.
I'd also appreciate it if anybody could recommend a good chess club based
near the Cambridge city centre.
Thanks

You could try the games shop on Green Street (between Sidney and Trinity
St).

The Cambridge city chess club meets on Monday evenings from 7-30 to
11-00pm
at the Graduate Centre on Mill Lane (by the river).
I'm afraid you'll have to go to London for chess shops, but if it's
chess software or computers you want, there's a major distributor
with a shop only ten or so miles away in Wilburton. This is:
Countrywide Computers Ltd.,
Victoria House,
1, High Street,
Wilburton,
Cambs.

You're wasting your time looking for a chess set in Cambridge shops.
Anything
you find will be poor quality and/or expensive. If you don't want to
take
a trip to London, then you can order by post or using the internet.
Try either of the following:
The Chess Shop, 69 Masbro Road, London, W14 0BR (0171) 603 2877
or
Chess and Bridge Centre, 369 Euston Road, London, NW1 3AR, (0171)388
2404
email to chess...@easynet.co.uk for a catalogue
or look at the web pages, www.chesscenter.com
I hope this helps

Well, there's Games and Puzzles on Green Street (a little down from the
in-town Sainsburys), just don't try conversing with the owner.
Or, you could try Otherworld Games on King Street, not sure whether they
do chess sets though.
