Fellow Cam.Misc'ers

Does any body Know of a decent garage in Cambridge that is not a rip
off. I hate all garages I seems to me that they charge for work they
don't actually do and is not required.

I reccomend Nice and Sons in Waterbeach - no bullshit and generous people.
OK so not in Cambridge but close to Waterbeach station and Cambridge is just
up the track.

Brown's, underneath the railway arches on Coldhams Lane. Not a flash
location, but a really good mechanic, or to use his own description "Motor
Engineer".

I've been using Arbury Road Garage (aka Eric Jude and Son, IIRC) for
several years. As far as I can tell, their prices are fair, their
attitude helpful, and their staff knowledgable. I've no complaints, and
no hesitation in recommending them.

Cheers,
Chris

I'll always recommend Robin at Weldit Services in Swann Road C. 301070.

Just had an an expensive job with him:-( He went through everything up
front and came up with an estimate at £800. Final bill was "only" £670 as
his labour turned out to be a lot less than he feared.

He's always told me up front what he is going to do, and never does more
than necessary.

C&D Motors on Hope St off Mill Road. Used them for years for various
decrepit vehicles, very reliable.

I trust these guys implicitly, they always explain what they've done, show
me the bits they've taken out, and if other stuff needs doind whilst
they're under the bonnet, they'll call me. If the price is going to vary
from what they thought they call me and ask if I want them to go ahead.

When you find a good garage the best thing to do is to keep quiet about
it!. Let too many people know, and they'll have to expand and take on a
receptionist etc which will drive up their overheads, make them charge
more, and then you don't get to speak to the mechanic.

Notices explaining for health and safety reasons, your not allowed into
the workshops etc:-(

I wasn't very impressed that they managed to service a car with a
noisily low power steering fluid level, and leave it in exactly the same
condition. On the other hand, they did go to some effort to deliver the
car when they were finished. Neither recced nor disrecced.

I've been calling around for my 48,000 mile service on my Chrysler.
Here's what I was quoted over the phone for the standard service.

Marshall Cambridge (01223) 411114:
£628 - 10% because I bought it there.
Marshall Peterborough (01733) 5558 588:
£290+VAT

Other Chrysler dealers in the area:

Bishops Stortford 01279 654 566:
£384.15 incl VAT
King's Lynn 01553 770144
£274.00

I can't imagine why I won't be driving to King's Lynn for the day. The
markup in Cambridge seems scandalous.
Does anyone with a Chrysler G. Voyager Turbo Diesel use an independent
garage around Cambridge for services?

Tony

Now you've given it away, a good friend has had his cars serviced there
