(In answer to the OP)
Ordinary Portland cement is grey. The colour of the finished mortar will
depend on the sand colour, the mixing proportions, ... .
To colour mortar, you can use Febtone (available in both powder and liquid
forms) - see e.g. http://www.feb.uk.com/products/admixtures/febtone-powder
It's available from builders merchants. A 1 kg carton goes a lo...ng way.
How old is your house?
Lime based mortar is a different colour to cememt based mortar. If your
house uses lime mortar do not use a cement based mortar to repair it!
Cement based mortars are very hard and over time it can actually damage the
bricks. Lime based mortars are slightly softer and "move" with the bricks.
They also look a lot better in my opinion. Lime based mortars typically
look slightly sandy where as cement based can look smooth (at least when
new).
If you have lime based mortar read up on the subject.

Hi,
It was built in 1929 (~81 years). I shall read up on the subject.
