I've tried their number but it's "Not been recognised", tried another one I
found and got even less response. Tried their website but nothing doing. So
it doesn't sound too promising does it. Unless you know different...
I haven't checked they've gone but there was a planning application for
redevelopment there a while ago IIRC.

The Smith's have retired but the people who bought the place have been
continuing as a shoe shop (at least, that was the intent). Haven't noticed
what's there recently, but I ought to know, it is part of my ward! Will
check next time I go past.
The plan app Rupert mentioned was for extension of the rear and was
refused.

Good to have its continued existence confirmed.
Max Boyce.
Still a shoe shop and still with (what looks from the outside) a big
children's range on the right.

It's now called Burr Shoes, a quick google seems to suggest that they
are a regional chain, with shops in Royston, Hitchin, Letchworth &
Stevenage. They don't appear to have a website but the Milton Road shop
is on 01223 300768.

Ah! Burrs! My feet growing days were spent in Letchworth. They had one
of those Clarks foot measurers and my feet were unusually wide so I
remember sitting in Burrs with stock spread around me whilst we found
the closest match that then got sent away for further widening.
Great - we bought some shoes for our daughter there when we thought they
were closing down. Her recent pair came from the shop in Great Shelford
and cost an eye-watering Ł45! For a two year old!!!

Aahh...thanks for that, and all the other contributions. Very useful.
Cheers.
