Here is the exact minutes from the ResHall minutes if anyone is interested in looking in on why we didn't get the money.
Vietnamese Student Association Culture Show Sponsorship CKC: For involvement, we acknowledged that there were 1100 residents last year and were told that most were residents. We were skeptical of this. We liked the theme of human trafficking. The sponsorship’s advertising seemed insufficient, and flash mobs could be ineffective. The recommendation is $150. Ida Sproul: Is there a specific reason for the $150? It seems arbitrary. Putnam: We only use the numbers as guidelines. We then recommend numbers and compromise among the group. Bowles: Bowles thinks FiComm’s recommendation is a little generous, and we don’t know exactly what they’re going to do. CKC: We discussed how this event has been going on for the last 30 years. Given that they were asking for $500, we thought it would be reasonable amount. Ida Sproul: The budget is actually very thorough and laid out. Christian: A lot of emphasis was put on high school students. When asked about whether there would be subsidies, the whole discussion point seemed like an afterthought. It seems like this targets a specific group, not necessarily the residence halls. Towle: If the event’s been going on for 30 years, they should have taken care of problems. Cheney: Cheney thought some of the ways VSA avoided questions was a little shady. Ida Sproul: In defense of the event, Zellerbach is really expensive. CKC: They mention t-shirts, postcards, and balloons. FiComm discussed stipulations but didn’t add any. Hillside: Hillside thinks the question of venue is irrelevant since this is residents’ money. Vote: Sponsorship does not pass. VSA will receive $0.
