The oppression that the occupycal encampment has faced is only going to make us stronger and we NEEDZ you to be there! Occupycal is calling for a general strike statewide school strike next Tuesday, November 15. There is a planning meeting today on Sproul at 5, a general assembly at 6, and then a vigil at occupyoakland at 10. Sounds like some dope anti-hierarchical action to me! Be there!

Critical Race Perspectives on Animal Rights and Veganism: A lecture by Breeze Harper
Wednesday, 11/16/11, 6 - 730, 155 Barrows
Breeze Harper is one incredible womyn, and a true pioneer in the field of animal rights. She is editor of Sistah Vegan, a contributor to several compilations, and the author of Scar. She will be speaking on nuanced approaches to animal rights and veganism. COME and get deconstructed.

Thanksliving
Wednesday, 11/16/11, 10 - 2 pm, Sproul Plaza
November means turkey month and at BOAA that means we recognize the extreme losses of life that this month commemorates. In order to advocate for a more compassionate unthanksliving dinner this year (and stand in solidarity for the genocide of native american peoples that colonialization has meant), we'll be passing out free samples of vegan food on campus. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help cook in the morning, transport the foods, and man the table from 10 - 2. Email me at amman...@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.

BOAAgossip listserv
The BOAAgossip listserv is intended to be for active members who don't mind getting mail more often than once a week. It will include upcoming events, reminders, knowledge sharing, opportunities, etc. Email me: amman...@gmail.com if you wanna get on it.

Half Marathon for Harvest Home
December 31st, Castro Valley
If anyone is interested in training to run a half-marathon on December 31st in Castro Valley (just south of Oakland), to benefit the animals of Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, they can sign up for the google group: http://groups.google.com/group/harvest-home-heroes-team
Our next recruitment event (Sports Basement Shopping Party in Walnut Creek) is on Saturday, September 24. More details about this awesome event are online: http://www.facebook.com/public.emily1?ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=169788183097112. Major props to Dana Portnoy for making this event happen!

Food Empowerment Project: NOW HIRING!
The Food Empowerment Project is seeking someone who can help develop an iphone app. Please let Lauren Ornelas, ltor...@gmail.com, know if you can help. FEP is truly an incredible organization that connects veganism to other social justice issues, such as food justice, environmentalism, and environmental justice. Check out their chocolate list before halloween: http://www.foodispower.org
Lauren will be speaking at my DeCal, this Wednesday, 10/26, from 6 - 730 in 259 Dwinelle if you are interested in stopping by.

Best,
Amman Desai
