We're hosting several public astronomy events in the next month. As always, these events are free and open to all, no reservations necessary.
Friday, September 27 @ 8:00PM (This Friday)How is the advent of artificial intelligence and machine learning changing astrophysics? What new astronomical discoveries will be possible with these exciting technologies? Join us for a presentation discussing
AI in astrophysics given by Caltech postdoctoral fellow
Dr. Joanna Piotrowska-Karpov. This 30-minute presentation at a public level will be followed by an extended Q&A panel with several astrophysicists to answer your questions about space. And the weather looks great for guided stargazing with telescopes after the presentation. This event will be hosted at our normal location, the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics. No tickets or reservations required, just show up or tune in to our
YouTube livestream. For more information about this evening's event, including directions, please see our
website.
Stargazing Lecture
NASA Voyager Mission
Friday, October 11 @ 8:00PM
The NASA Voyager spacecraft were arguably the most important space mission in history, returning some of the first images of the outer solar system and beyond. Currently the most distant manmade objects, they continue to reveal important data about interstellar space. Join us for a 30-minute lecture on the
NASA Voyager Mission featuring Caltech Senior Scientist
Dr. Alan Cummings, one of the original Voyager scientists, followed by a panel Q&A consisting of several astrophysicists to answer your questions about astronomy and space science. There will also be guided stargazing with telescopes after the presentation. This event will be hosted at our normal location, the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics. No tickets or reservations required, just show up or tune in to our
YouTube livestream. For more information about this evening's event, including directions, please see our
website.
Astronomy on Tap
Echoes of the Big Bang &
Search for Life in the Universe
Monday, October 21 @ 7:30PM
Our monthly
Astronomy on Tap series continues this month at the Dog Haus Biergarten in Old Town Pasadena on Monday, October 21 @ 7:30PM. We will have two 20-minute presentations on astronomical topics: "
Search for Biosignatures Across Space and Time," and "Echoes of the Big Bang." These talks will be given by Caltech postdoctoral fellow
Dr. Anastasia Yanchilina and NASA JPL postdoctoral fellow
Dr. Albert Wandui. In addition to these public-level science presentations, there will be guided stargazing with a telescope, live rock music with
Jason Achilles, and astronomy-themed pub trivia with prizes.
Despite occurring at an outdoor bar/restaurant, these events are open to all ages and free to all, no reservations needed. For more information about this event, including directions, please see our
website.
