Astronomy enthusiasts,

Thank you for your interest in Caltech Astro Outreach events. We will be hosting two special events over the next month.  This coming Monday, we'll have Astronomy on Tap, and in 3 weeks, we'll host a very special 100th Stargazing Lecture featuring Nobel laureate Kip Thorne!  Read on for more details.

Astronomy on Tap, June 24 @ 7:30PM

Our monthly Astronomy on Tap series continues this month at the Dog Haus Biergarten in Old Town Pasadena on Monday, June 24 @ 7:30PM.  We will have two 20-minute presentations on astronomical topics: using machine learning to better understand supernova explosions and computer visualizations of astrophysical phenomena.  These talks will be given by recent Caltech graduate Xander Hall and NASA IPAC research scientist Robert Hurt, respectively.  In addition to the presentations, there will be guided stargazing with a telescope and astronomy-themed pub trivia with prizes.  Despite occurring at an outdoor bar/restaurant, these events are open to all ages and free to all.

100th Stargazing Lecture, July 12 @ 8PM

After 8 years, July marks our 100th Stargazing Lecture, and we will be hosting a very special event to commemorate it. Our 100th Stargazing Lecture will occur on Friday, July 12 @ 8PM.  This month will feature Nobel Laureate Kip Thorne discussing "An Odyssey Through the Warped Side of Our Universe."  Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Thorne was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize for his role in the LIGO project to detect the first gravitational waves He also served as technical advisor on several films, including Tenet, Oppenheimer, and Interstellar.  After the presentation, we will host telescopes for an hour of public stargazing (weather permitting) and an extended astrophysicist Q&A panel.  In addition to happening in person, this event will be live-streamed on YouTube Live here.

Unlike past events, this special lecture will take place in the Beckman Auditorium in the center of campus.  All in-person attendees must register online to obtain free tickets beforehand.  For directions and link to our free online registration, visit our website here: http://outreach.astro.caltech.edu

All of our events are free and open to all.  Stargazing is contingent on clear weather.  Please see our website for photos of past events, directions, and more information.

If you've missed things over the course of the last few years, we've recorded many of our past lectures, and you can watch them on our YouTube channel here.

Thanks everyone, and I hope to see you at one of our events this month!

Cameron
