I never dreamed that I would be active in Zumba fitness 8 years after attending my first class as a student in August of 2008. I am very pleased that my business (as a small as it is) is still surviving going into my 5th year since opening Just Dance Fitness on December 10th, 2010! I will never be able to quite my day job because of the low prices I charge... but there is more to life than just money. GOD has given me a talent and passion that I truly enjoy to share with others. I would love to do nothing but teach all the time and charge nothing to my students, but unfortunately good will will not provide for the expenses it costs to run my operation. So I continue to teach classes each week because of the love I have for others and because of my deep passion for Zumba fitness. It is my desire to pay forward to others the benefits I have reaped from participating in this form of fitness exercise (I have lost 80 pounds in my fitness journey since August 2008). The biggest benefit I gain from owning my own Zumba Fitness studio is the awesome privilege I have to meet so many of GOD's awesome kids! I have crossed paths with a little over 2,000 people since becoming an instructor. I find it so incredible to witness life changing transformation in people when they participate as a student in my classes. It is a truly humbling experience and provides the fuel to keep me motivated to host 6 hours of Zumba classes each week, week after week, for the past 4 years.

So look out 2016... I look forward to another year in which I can offer a place where people "can dance like no one is watching" as I personally lead approximately 294 hours in Zumba fitness activities! It is my hope to see you on my dance floor soon!

Objective: As an alternative to the traditional approach to physical exercise, new kinds of organized physical activity have been developed designed to engage large segments of the population. Among these, Zumba fitness is extremely popular, with a growing number of participants. This article aims to summarize and analyze the body of evidence on the effects of Zumba fitness interventions on physical function, fitness, and wellbeing. TYPE: Systematic review.

Literature survey: Keyword "Zumba" was identified as term for the literature research in MEDLINE, Scopus, Bandolier, PEDro, and Web of Science. Only studies published in peer-reviewed journals written in English language were considered.

Methodology: Eleven manuscripts were classified as eligible with 586 total participants, ranging in age from 18 to 65 years. After a quality appraisal, we classified 4 studies as high-quality investigations and 7 as low quality. Results were summarized in several domains: "anthropometric parameters and body composition," "hormonal and metabolic profiles," "aerobic and cardiovascular performance," "muscular fitness parameters," and "quality of life, pain score and physical activity questionnaire."

Synthesis: Results from this systematic review indicated that Zumba fitness could be considered an effective type of physical activity able to improve aerobic capacity. Small but positive benefits were noted for reducing body weight and other body measurements. Furthermore, other effects, including psychological and social benefits on quality of life, were found after Zumba fitness interventions. Otherwise, limited evidence described positive effects on muscular strength and flexibility.

Conclusions: Zumba fitness could be considered an effective type of physical activity able to improve aerobic capacity. Limited evidence described positive effects on muscular strength and flexibility.

High energy and motivating music allows participants to dance away their worries. Zumba is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" allowing participants to achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

There are 45 pre-set classes as well as customizable workouts. Players can learn different dance styles, including salsa, hip-hop, Tahitian, calypso, Bollywood, cumbia, reggaeton and Irish step. The world tour mode allows players to unlock songs from seven global destinations.

The "Progress Tracker Plus" tallies all of a player's statistics, including technique score, calories burned and goals met. Players can set personal fitness goals or work towards pre-set goals to unlock bonus rewards. Motivational rewards include behind-the-scenes videos, passport stamps, postcards, souvenirs, fitness tips and achievements. Low-, medium- and high-intensity routines are available, along with expanded tutorials.

In my Zumba fitness classes at Pritikin, my students feel very comfortable with expressing all sides of their personality. From ages 18 to 98, they let loose! It is incredible to see how positively people respond to Zumba, and how eager they are to incorporate it into their everyday lives when they return home.

As soon as I walked in the room, I saw the neon purple lighting and smiling faces. The space still had that party vibe Zumba is known for, and it was clear that this was going to be a more accessible approach to a high-intensity interval class.

The 45-minute workout is divided into four sections, or quadrants as they're called during the class. We started with a warm-up (quadrant one, called Ignite), which was focused on prepping your body for the workout by raising your heart rate with moves like jumping jacks, as well as incorporating some mobility work with moves like leg swings and dynamic hip stretches.

Dance cardio can be a fantastic workout, but incorporating strength and interval training adds even more benefits to your fitness routine. Strength training not only makes you feel strong AF, it also helps with weight-loss goals. Lean muscle mass takes more energy for your body to maintain, so the more you have, the more calories your body burns at rest.

The on-beat pattern was definitely noticeable throughout the entire workout, so even though it's not technically dance cardio, I'd call this class...rhythmic. There were dance-y moves seamlessly woven in between traditional exercises like jumping jacks and lunges, plus some boxing-inspired punch and kick sequences that I was very into.

The workout isn't available everywhere yet, but it's available in major cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, and Miami (Crunch is the first nationwide gym to offer the workout). It'll roll out in more cities nationwide as more trainers get certified, so look out for it to hit your gym soon (this handy Zumba class finder can help). For boot camp enthusiasts, it's a way to add some fun movement to your routine, and for Zumba class lovers, it's a way to add some all-important strength training to your workouts. Win-win, no matter how you like to shake it.
