Thatsaid I know it has been reported and address in some of the firmware releases. At least improved behaviour. I would advise to go for the latest release. I am sure your local engineer can provide you and upgrade the device as a preventive measure.
Yes, we will see. Last visit he did exactly that, updated firmware/software. WC7220 had to be done twice in two days. Lost all accounting information, both machines. Latest greatest versions at the time, 7 weeks ago.
WC7220, here we go again. Xerox did perform a software refresh on last visit (as per larbakium PM to me, they did the alt boot folder). So last week we started seeing this same issue again. Place another support call. (nbr 7)
Its the next day after the Image Overwrite for the WC7845, during the evening a shift worker needed to print his reports. All failed. Machine kept asking user to confirm paper size in Tray 2, which was CORRECT, but machine refused to update settings. ALL PRINTING has STOPPED on this Machine now for the duration of the night shift. This AM, reboot machine. Printing now restored.
Xerox is now my #1 worst nightmare. Just how do I continue to tell my users that we have to keep this thing because we are locked in, or can I get out of the lease, or how about a new machine that works?
After 2 weeks an analyst and level 2 started working on the case again. We have had nothing but problems since we received these in December 2014. Last week they came on site and had me upgrade (2) WC to 072.091.165.14201 the rest of the WC are on 72.040.145.05000. I found SPARs to be unstable for the WC75xx and avoid them if possible.
Level 3 hardware support came and looked at one WC7845 and found it crashed on a 2 sided to 1 sided and 2 sided to 2 sided copy. Level 3 said the SD-Card is corrupt from the the low speed firmware being applied or from ALTBOOT to a lower firmware version. The 7830 and 7835 have a 2 pass 2 sided copy AKA the low speed. The 7845 and 7855 have a 1 pass 2 sided copy AKA the high speed. After level 3 replaced the SD-card, every few hours prints stopped getting to the LRP queue requiring a restart of print spooler service on the Windows 2012 R2 server. On site came and replaced the system board and onboard NIC.
But same issue will remain if the Xerox stays. WHAT to say to my users who have had enough of these nuisance machines?? They have their own jobs to do and should have to be rebooting printers every other day.
Nice of Xerox to list all version available on this, but I see 4 flavours for 7220 with another being duplicated. And not one of these has a Build Date or Release Date, although they keep talking about Dates.
Call a tech, as I am not touching it with a ten foot pole. I would hazard to guess if I did a SW update myself, Xerox would find some reason to blame me for all the issues. Not going down that rabbit hole.
Some of the versions listed were security updates for heartbleed and bash vulnerabilities. The most stable version is the version listed on the Xerox driver downloads page. At this time the WC7845 general release ends in 09100. The latest SPARs contain bug fixes for specific needs but are poorly tested IMHO. Versions not listed were replaced by new SPARs and do not indicate you need to update unless you are having an issue. I think you are having issues.
I have a copier repair background in addition to everything else. I do not find the ALTBOOT or web update daunting. I do not suggest you try it though. I lock down USB and print based updating on my WC incase a user gets a crazy idea. I changed the default admin, 1111 log in also.
I am on my second set of complaints with Xerox global customer relations. We had 3 WC down today for 3 hours. I had a color and black/white Xerox techs working on the WC. They wasted 3 hours with no resolution.
IIT PWB for the Xerox WorkCentre 7220 / 7225. If you replace this board, please be sure to transfer the EEPROM from the old board. It's also important to perform a so called 'Alboot' to make sure all system board in your printer have the same firmware level. Let us know if you need help with this.
