The season opener for Humboldt Randonneurs is a new route for Humboldt,
Kneeland Towers designed by our friend and local rando, bike shop mechanic, Arcata native, Nic Abler!
The route starts at the Arcata Community center, where there is ample parking, leaves Arcata for the North Jetty and crosses Humboldt Bay into Eureka, south on Hikshari Trail out to Elk River, stop at 3 Corners Market if you need to fuel up before Freshwater - where the 3000' climb to Kneeland Towers begins!
After Kneeland Towers, stop at Kneeland school to fill your bottles because that's the last water stop before Blue Lake. Use caution on the narrow descent from Kneeland on Butler Valley road - the road may be wet and slippery, and uphill traffic, though slight, may not be expecting a downhill bicycle!
Stop in Murphy's Market in Blue Lake to refuel, then take a right on Feildbrook to finish the last awesome 50 miles of the route (for those who might abandon, head straight to Essex and take 299 to Korblex to return to Arcata, cutting off the last 50 miles of the route). For those continuing on are treated to recently open timberland to Fieldbrook and coastal sections of Trinidad on Scenic Dr.
