Hi all,

We are excited to announce a variety of events and updates that are pertinent to these final few weeks of Spring quarter!

Slack

If you are not already a part of our Slack group, we highly recommend joining to get frequent updates about upcoming events, job/project opportunities, and for staying in touch with fellow club members.

Using your Cal Poly email, you can join the group through the following link: calpolyroboticsclub.slack.com

Office Hours

We are hosting virtual office hours in conjunction with WISH for the remainder of the quarter. This will act as a time that people can hang out and do homework together on Zoom. They will be every Tuesday from 11am-12pm PST and every Friday from 10am-12pm PST

Here is the Zoom link we will be using:  https://calpoly.zoom.us/j/99314921352

Standup Meetings

We are having stand up meetings every Monday and Thursday from 9:50am-10:10am PST. Everyone is welcome to briefly join and share what they’re working on. Stand ups are commonplace in software companies as a way to quickly get everyone up to speed each morning.

Links are posted in the #standup channel on slack each morning.

IRA Survey

The College of Engineering requires that we annually assess our club purpose and progress towards our learning objectives. As we have in previous years, we are conducting a survey of members to get feedback and assess outcomes. The officer team would greatly appreciate it if you spent 5-10 minutes giving us feedback on how participating in the Robotics Club this year has been for you.

Token Discussion

Token is a fictive short film created by Cal Poly students to highlight the challenges that womxn in tech face and promote allyship.

WISH and Robotics Club will be hosting a Token Discussion event on Friday, May 22nd from 4:00pm-5:30pm PST. We will be individually watching the film at the start of the event and then discussing any relevant issues presented in the film.

Lightning Talks

Cal Poly Robotics Club will be hosting a Lightning Talks event on Friday, May 29th at 6:00pm-7:30pm PST via Zoom. Lightning Talks are short talks (4 to 10 mins.) that will allow students to share about a technical or non-technical topic that relates to the Cal Poly experience that they have found interesting, enjoyable, or fulfilling.

All students are welcome to submit a talk! The deadline to submit a talk proposal is on Monday, May 25th at 11:59pm PST.

To submit a talk, please fill out the following application form: https://forms.gle/LAhvFCazWKNTB1iG6

Further requirements for the talk can be found within the application form, along with a variety of potential areas to present a talk on. If you are unsure if your talk fits into one of the areas we have listed, feel free to ask us about it via slack or email.

As always, thank you for your continued involvement in the club and we hope to see you at the upcoming events!

Sincerely,

Cal Poly Robotics Club Officers
