I am very pleased to announce CalorieQuick beta version 0.1.3 with
support for scanning UPC bar codes.
Now, when you are in the Enter Foods screen, you can press the new
"Scan" button. CalorieQuick displays a view finder on screen. Just
position the camera so the bar code is within the red rectangle. When
CalorieQuick finds a valid UPC code, it looks it up in the
UPCDatabase.com online database, extracts a description and uses this
to find a list of matching foods in the Fat Secret online database.
A couple of caveats: First, not all cameras in Android phones have
adequate resolution and are able to focus clearly at close distance.
If you have trouble scanning, check the FAQs help page for some tips.
If this doesn't help, you may not be able to use this feature.
Second, bar code scanning depends on a UPC database. There is no
central registry where all UPC codes are recorded. The database at
UPCDatabase.com is very good, but it is necessarily incomplete.
Please let me know what you think of the new bar code scanning
feature. You can reply to this email.
Please note: Access to the UPC database and Fat Secret support cannot
be guaranteed. Please read the updated End User License Agreement
which will be displayed when you first run CalorieQuick after
updating
and also available at CalorieQuick.com/EULA.html.
Sincerely,
John Van Roekel

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I seem to get a Force Close
when I'm trying to scan and the screen goes into lock mode on my HTC
Droid Eris. When I unlock my screen, CalorieQuick shows the force
close message. Not sure if that is an issue with the app or my phone,
but just an FYI.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I've seen this on the HTC Incredible too. I will look into it.
