Initially I wanted to learn how to draw to improve my painting but when I started drawing with charcoal my aspirations shifted. I enjoyed working with charcoal so much more than any other medium that I resolved to spend as much time with charcoal as possible. I love to experiment with other mediums and I love color but for now my art practise is focused primarily on charcoal drawing and my preferred subjects are animals.

I grew up with dogs and cats with horses and ponies and farm animals close by making me a lifelong animal lover. Animals make the best subject matter for me because they are completely unselfconscious - there is no artifice in any animals expression and it is their range of expressions that I love to capture. Charcoal lends itself perfectly to animal art as it brings an expressive warmth to each piece. There is an infinite amount of animals to draw, each lending a unique perspective on life. I draw my animals, your animals and those I encounter in daily life.

After getting a bunch of questions about how I drew the line art animals in my April Plan With Me video (which you can watch here) I decided to make a little tutorial showing more in depth what I do and giving you all my tips and tricks!

Forty-two second-graders at St. Michael's Episcopal School in Richmond, Virginia, imagined those stories and created heartwarming letters and drawings on behalf of 24 dogs and one cat awaiting adoption at a local shelter.

Peters arranged for the St. Michael's students to meet with Snow, a 10-week-old American pit bull-terrier puppy who was waiting to be adopted from RACC's shelter. On Jan. 31, the students learned about RACC's mission and how they could help some of the animals considered \"less desirable\" by potential adopters, typically older dogs and pit bulls, according to Peters.

\"We're the only open-admission shelter in the city of Richmond, which means we take in every animal regardless of health or behavior,\" Peters explained. \"We typically take in around 3,000 animals a year and we take in everything, not just dogs and cats -- we've had monkeys and alligators and snakes. We respond to every call for service. And then we have wonderful volunteers and an adoption team that really work hard to try and find forever homes for the animals in our care.\"

Danielle Petroski, one of Jones' students, said in a press release from the school that she was \"so very happy\" to help get dogs adopted. \"All dogs deserve a loving home, especially Snow [the puppy ambassador]. I am so very happy to be able to help neglected animals find great forever families.\"

The goal for coloring their drawings was to color in the foreground with darker values, and show detail and texture, and students colored in the middle ground and background the colors should be lighter in value.

The lessons below focus on drawing North American animals that the explorers would have come across in their travels. Just like Lewis and Clark, our students will practice honing their observation and drawing skills among the many other subject matter they know.

Upendo Minja, a 2016 graduate in procurement and supplies at the College of Business Education in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, told Xinhua in an interview recently that she decided to blend her clothing design with the Maasai traditional wear and drawings of wild animals by Tinga Tinga Art to have a different look.

"My fashion design that comprise of the Maasai traditional wear and wild animals drawings such as giraffe and lions by Tinga Tinga Art is attracting tens of hundreds of customers, including tourists from across the world who visit Tanzania to see these animals," said Minja who is also known as Rose.

Do you want to know what will really get first graders excited about drawing still lifes? Have them bring in their own stuffed animals! I invited the kids to bring in their favorite stuffed animals to draw. I also had a garbage bag full of my own stuffed animals from home in case someone forgot to bring in one.

A man named Tom Curtis from the UK is giving children's artistic imagination a hilarious twist. The man who runs the 'Things I Have Drawn' page on Instagram gives his sons Dom and AI's artwork a creative twist. The artist often posts recreated subjects including animals and people made by his sons and other children from around the world on his social media page. The photoshopped results are both hilarious as well as terrifying.

Things I Have Drawn website says that it "Imagines a world in which the things kids draw are real." They further explained, "Over the past few years, we've created hundreds of creatures, vehicles and people, and although Dom and Al are now a bit too old to be contributing their own drawings, we've got plenty of their old ones in the drawer, to add to the many more being submitted every month from talented young artists everywhere."

Born Free works tirelessly to ensure that all wild animals, whether living in captivity or in the wild, are treated with compassion and respect and are able to live their lives according to their needs... opposing the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaigning to Keep Wildlife in the Wild.

A dog, a bird, a fish, a snake, a fly and worms are all animals. There are almost one million kinds of animals, so you're not likely to get bored with this unlimited range of subjects at your disposal.

I really enjoy doing animal drawings, it only takes a bit of concentration to get the outline right and then the rest is easy. You can always use a grid to simplify the task or you could try tracingwhich shows you how to create the outline.

My beginner animal pencil drawings are not that spectacular but they are here for you to grasp the idea of practicing with simple pencil outlines before progressing on to doing all kinds of animal drawings.

My subject matter ranges from elegant barn owls to tattooed manatees. I have completed an Alice in Wonderland themed series, a Star Wars tribute and played with Steampunk elements. Most of my work is centered on nature and its animals. I try to convey personality and emotion as well as my own brand of quirky humor.

Sarah,
I like your sense of humor and whimsy. We need that in this troubled world we live in now. Your animals are very well drawn. I do paintings of animals in the wild. They are so beautiful and a joy to look at.

Animal Directed drawings are a fun way to teach students how to draw and build fine motor strength! The Animal Directed Drawing Unit will include eight different directed drawings perfect for an ocean theme, zoo theme, farm theme, nocturnal animals theme, or camping theme. These directed drawings are very simple, making them perfect for little learners in preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Included are ideas to make directed drawings with various art media and background options.

CENTER ACTIVITY: Once students have done multiple directed drawings in the classroom, they may be ready to do it independently. Now, you can use directed drawings in center activities, early finisher activities, morning activity, indoor recess, or in the art center. Put out the various supplies and let students choose what they want to use to create their directed drawing.

THE PERFECTIONIST STUDENTS! You will always have some students that want their drawings to be perfect. BEFORE you begin each directed drawing, have a conversation about how each one of us is amazing and unique, so your drawings will all be amazing and unique, just like them! You can also model making mistakes and model reacting to that mistake.

Trent was diagnosed with level 3 or severe autism at two years old. At about two and a half Trent picked up a pen and a started drawing - even that very first drawings was incredible! At about four years old Trent began to display violent bouts of aggression. During those difficult years, Trent continued to draw but the aggression, changing schools several times, therapies, and his siblings' school events made it difficult to do much else. In 2016, Trent's first drawing video went viral. With the help of his school, Heartspring in Wichita, KS, we developed his first coloring book, then shirts, and other items followed. In 2021, Trent's TikTok account took off and we realized Drawings by Trent could provide for Trent's future, teach him valuable job skills, and bring joy to millions of people all over the world!

As artists and scientists throughout history began to study animals in earnest and create compendiums of fantastic beasts (and where to find them), they had to rely on secondhand knowledge to create their own drawings. The result? Hilariously inaccurate and weird depictions of creatures that look more like they come from a Dr. Seuss book than an encyclopedia.
