Hello Neil,
Quoting Neil <neil...@gmail.com>:

I'm sure you'll be happy to know you are wrong, calipso is absolutely
free to use without paying anyone anything. Regarding the fork you are
correct; our changes where simply incompatible after some point early
on.
With that said, you are welcome to purchase support services from us
(or anyone else for that matter), or enroll the beta program to obtain
those freely as well.
Please feel free to suggest changes in the documentation or website
etc. to help us make clear that calipso is absolutely free to use.
Kindest regards,
Manos
That is good news; the reason I asked is the following sentence:
Basically this means Calipso is open source under the AGPLv3 but you
must purchase a commercial license if you are interested in using it
with closed source software.
From your previous statement do you mean that we need a commercial
license if we wish to redistribute Calipso with closed source
software? 'Using it' is very vague which is what lead to my original
question.
I'll look for an upgrade path from my current JTrac to Calipso and
it is good that someone has picked it up as I like JTrac a lot.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Neil
Ouch. Yes that was actually very misleading, I have edited the text to:
"Calipso is also available under a commercial license if you are
interested in combining and distributing it with closed source software."
I hope this makes it clearer.

One can distribute calipso along with closed source software and potato
chips without needing a commercial license :-)
Essentially the commercial license is only useful for people that want
to create what you'd describe as derivative work and not put it under
the AGPL. People that wish to make changes to calipso and release those
under the AGPL to the public have no use for a commercial license.
Thanks for helping us fix this!
