I am a really fan of this project. Is it still alive? The last commit happened several months ago.

It is! Development focus has been on other things lately, but we are always monitoring the lists and watching bugs. We're also happy to field ideas for enhancements and contributions. Caliper is a part of our workflow, so you can expect that it'll be around the foreseeable future.
