Hey all,
This week's collecting brought me to a new location: the track. Located 1/4 mile from where I live, and open 24/7, I stopped off late Thursday to see if some runners had left their water bottles:

Left: the track.
Right: the outdoor prison-style exercise equipment for the athletes.
On a similar note, I went to the season opener Men's Basketball game. The game was a blow-out against
Sonoma State. Considering SSU is Division III, I actually think they put up a pretty good effort:

Despite a late push from the Wolverines was able to push thier score well past half of UCSB's, but the finish was still a bit lopsided. If you look up close at the roster (left), you'll see that UCSB has
a 7-3 ringer from Budapest. Go figure.
In terms of recycling, I brought my bottles in this morning, and got $10 on the nose. I also snapped a good picture of the whole operation over at the Isla Vista location:

A couple of college kids were finishing up just as I arrived. The recyclables are sorted and put into the wire frames (foreground) to be checked for 1) liquid in the bottles and 2) that things are in the right place and 3) no non-CRV things are being recycled (wine bottles, for example, are exempt from CRV and so cannot be recycled here). Then, the goods are dumped into the blue bins and weighed on the calibrated scale (left side). The whole operation is run out of two shipping containers (one plastic, one aluminum), which can be rolled off and replaced when full. Shipping containers
sure are versatile! After you finish, you get a receipt for the transaction which can be redeemed for cash for 30 days at the Isla Vista Market (other side of the parking lot).
All in all it was pretty quiet today. The guy running it said I just got lucky missing the Sunday crowds (phew).
Hopefully I can pick up the scraps of the various AYSO venues tonight, but that's dependant on my coursework being finished.
Thanks for reading!
