Hi all!

Mushboo is launching a new product called Mushboost Living Soil. Mushboost is a super soil teaming with a thriving microbial community of beneficial bacteria, protozoa and endomycorrhizae fungi.

What is Mushboost?
Mushboost starts with biochar rich in organic carbon and infused with 7 species of edible fungi and 14 species of beneficial bacteria known to work symbiotically with plants to by transferring nutrients through the soil and breaking down organic matter into basic nutrients making them available for plant growth. The fungi use the biochar as a "home base" by threading through the porous biochar. Biochar is made through high temperature pyrolysis, essentially creating a "bio-coal". The carbon/nitrogen ratio and PH of the biochar are buffered giving the beneficial  microorganisms we add to the biochar a competitive edge. The fungi, potozoa and bacteria are cultivated on local food waste.

How does it work?
Growth trials of biochar have shown incredible yield increases. Biochar, mostly carbon, works by stimulating microbial activity in the soil. The downside of this is the potential that biochar would promote a parasite bacteria or fungi already living in the soil. By adding microorganisms known to be beneficial to plants Mushboost not only adds the soil building blocks but also includes a vibrant community of microorganisms ready to put these building blocks to use. To date all of our trials have shown that mixing our product with your compost will produce the highest yield when compared to compost alone, inert biochar, chemical fertilizer or controls.

Organic Certification?
Mushboost is not certified organic as we cultivate our fungi on urban food waste helping to close the loop in our local food system. Unfortunately there is no way for us to separate waste from organic growing processes.

Benefits of Mushboost
Increased yields due to a thriving soil community
Decreased need for fertilizers
Natural pest defense
Natural fungus defense (of parasitic and ectomycorrhizae fungi)
Increased soil aeration
