I manage to get hold of a few cheap RTL2832 based DVB-T USB dongles whilst
in China last week, and have a 'spare' which can be donated to the space
if anyone is interested in playing with it.

In case any hasn't heard these little $10 devices can be use in place of a
USRP for receiving RF, which is then demodulated/decoded on a PC.

See:

I'm planning to be at the space on Tuesday, anyone got any really cool
ideas for SDR projects?

:D That is so pimp!

I still have the 2 USRPs from SAIT that we can play with, but I'd love to take a look at that RTL2832! I'm planning to revamp the Telecommunications program at SAIT, and this would be a fantastic addition to the curriculum!

After my not-so-sucessfull demo last night, I managed to get something
sort of working.... main problem was using dongle in VM was not able to
capture via USB properly.

Once I moved the capture onto a real machine it went better. I still need
to work out how to demod at an offset frequency, but I got 'lucky' with
this capture (and script)

Whoooo baby! I don't know how this could be any easier...

Download and auto-magically build GnuRadio and plugins with:
http://www.sbrac.org/files/build-gnuradio

Load the attached script in gnuradio-companion, compile and run.

Job done :-),
Simon
