Hello Friends of Oxfam in Calgary!

 

If you would like to volunteer with Oxfam in Calgary; if you would like to be a liaison between Oxfam and your organization or if you know of someone that is passionate about international development, food justice and women’s rights and would like to be part of the Oxfam Community in Calgary, then I am pleased to invite you to the second Oxfam Calgary Community Group Meeting on Tuesday, August 23^rd at 7:00PM (until 8:00-8:30PM depending upon how much great conversation we have!). It will once again be held at Arusha Centre: The Old Y Building #106, 223 - 12 Avenue SW (the room is on your left as you enter the building). If anyone has trouble finding the place, call my cell at 306-241-4350.

 

We have a couple of exciting things on the agenda. One is that an amazing group of activists from Step UP for Somalia that raised over $26,000 for the East Africa Crisis by walking over 300km from Calgary to Edmonton will join us and tell us about their adventures, experiences, learning, etc. Check out their youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC_61-YO3sY

 

A second thing is that we need to make some concrete plans for Vandana Shiva’s visit to Calgary on September 23 & 24 (put on by the Consortium for Peace Studies) as Oxfam will be a part of the agenda! I will also fill people in on the Regional Assembly (held in Saskatoon September 24 & 25 – I know, how inconvenient for these two amazing events to be held on the same weekend!). We can discuss transportation and accommodation options for all those interested in attending. Our E.D. Robert Fox will be in attendance all weekend!

 

As you can see there are so many exciting things happening that you do not want to miss this wonderful planning session and opportunity to really build community in Calgary! Please RSVP so I know how many to expect.
