Hi Dominique,

In the past weeks, a couple of typing effects kept catching my attention, one of which I have seen for quite some time, so now, I have decided to bring attention to at least a couple I have encountered just today.

These are in the  Event description field.
The ellipses refer to more text that is not part of the issue.

I typed "… done. Delayed …"
and when I tapped the "Done" button at the top, the text became "… doneDelayed …"

The period and space are removed.
Only a period, followed by space then carriage return allows the period character to remain.

I have also noted that typing "… Done - Delayed …"
when I tapped the "Done" button at the top, the text became;

… done

- Delayed …

In the latter case, it looks like a hyphen is being treated as a list bullet.

I can probably understand hyphen being used as a list bullet, but period+space becoming null stumps me, and using period to end a sentence is quite an established convention.
But are there any other characters that annexed for special formatting?

thanks,
David…

Hi David,

thank you for your email! I cannot reproduce the problem so far and I assume that it is probably a problem with your software keyboard (e.g. an incorrectly working autocomplete function or something like that). Do you mean the "Save" button at the top or which "Done" button do you mean?

Kind regards

Dominique

Hi Dominique,
I was, as I mentioned, referring to the "Done" button that is at the top of the Event Description field.

As the text displays perfectly as typed on the screen up until the tapping of the "Done" button, I was not inclined to suspect the keyboard's auto-correct function, especially as it occurs on different keyboards (I switched back to the default "Samsung keyboard").

Auto-correct effects have always appeared while typing, and not occurred minutes after, or after a dialogue window has closed.

The hyphen effect is something that I recall happening on earlier phones with other keyboards as well.

I dragged out one of my older phones, and tried it out there.
It is using an older version of Calengoo, and the keyboard, Minuum, was my keyboard of choice until it was removed from the Play Store.
Typing with the period character :-

Typing with the Hyphen character :-

It is surprising that it would be unique to me, and all my phones only.
I must be special 😊

regards,
David…

Hi David,

did you maybe set "Settings > Display and Use > Edit view > Display HTML description as" to "Markdown"?

Kind regards

Dominique

I have. That setting must have been in effect for quite some time now.

It does explain the hyphen being an Unordered list as I suspected. 🤦‍♂️ Sorry. I even mentioned Markdown syntax, and didn't even think to check if that was an option I had forgotten about.

to seek out some markdown rules.
Nothing in the "Extended Syntax" appeared to be supported.
In the "Basic Syntax", only Bold, Italic, Ordered List, and Unordered List appeared to be supported.

The 3×hyphen to make a horizontal rule looks quite useful, shame it doesn't work 😞

I suspect that Link is being supported to a degree, I didn't check that, but I have noticed Calengoo tagging any numbers it can find as phone numbers

What reference for Markdown syntax should I be looking at? The one with the period+space does not seem to fit any markdown rule I can see yet.
But maybe if I know what exact markdown rules are being supported, I can work around the period+space format, whatever it is trying to do.

Thanks Dominique,
/David…
