Hi.
I have used CalenGoo for years and loved it.
I recently changed to a Huawei Mate 10 Pro, runs Android 8.
I have now an issue that the agenda widget, after sometime (no set timeframe, but definitely within one day), it will turn complete blank, the box is still there, but blank content, I cannot click into it.
Is there any common fix for this?
I did not have any issues ever in the past, even with my last phone which was also on Android 8 (OnePlus 3T).
Thanks

Hi!

Thank you very much! I am glad that you love it! :-)

Unfortunately that's a bug in the Huawei Mate 10 and not in CalenGoo as you can see here:

As you can see this affects all apps, not only CalenGoo. You are the third user with a Huawei Mate 10 who reports this problem. I didn't get such reports from users of other phones. One user reported that he has heard that Huawei has started to distribute an update. Maybe that update will fix it. You could try to contact the Huawei support regarding this problem. It seems that they release this update at different times in different countries.

Sorry, it seems that only Huawei can fix it.

Please contact me again if you have further questions!

Kind regards

Yes, same problem here with my Mate 10 (ALP-029), using Nova as my launcher. One quick fix is too long press the empty box and choose the resizing option. Then, briefly begin shrinking the size and, voila, your agenda reappears, and, without ever needing to stop, you restore it to the desired size. Still hoping for a fix though!

Hi!

Maybe a workaround could be to refresh the whole widget from time to time. Please check if refreshing the widget works: When the widget is empty please start CalenGoo and change a setting under "Settings > Widgets > Agenda widget". Then press the back button multiple times until you are back on your home screen. Is the widget still empty or is it displayed correctly again afterward?

Hi!

According to the last post on https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/widgets-stop-updating-t3703572 Huawei's Build B127 fixes the problem. Have you tried that Huawei update? Does it fix the widget problem?

Hi!

Unfortunately this problem seems to be a general problem of Mate 9 and Mate 10 devices. These devices seem to have some problems due to the wrong (too aggressive) battery management of Huawei's Android system. Here are some additional links:

Mate 9 problems and a few suggestions how to fix them: https://www.androidauthority.com/problems-huawei-mate-9-fix-738776/

Reports for a different widget app that is affected by the same problem on the Mate 10 devices (which shows that it is a general Mate 9/10 problem, not a problem in CalenGoo, because also all other apps seem to be affected if they use scrollable widgets): https://github.com/plusonelabs/calendar-widget/issues/279

So as far as I can see it probably won't be possible to fix it in CalenGoo, because CalenGoo isn't started to send the needed data to the widget. I hope Huawei will fix it with an update for these devices soon!

Please don't hesitate to contact me again if you have further questions!

I just posted a new thread on this same issue on my Mate 9 upgraded to Oreo.  Seems there is nothing we can to fix this??

Hi!

I will try to find a workaround but it would certainly be better if Huawei would just fix it for all apps. Have you tried to contact their support? Do they have an estimate when they will release a fixed Android version? 🤔

Some of widgets seem to be updating fine. Perhaps the dev and take a look at those and see how they get around this issue? The apps and widgets that work for me are Chronus and Month Calendar Widget.

Both of these widgets (Chronus and Month Calendar Widget) are not scrollable widgets. From what I have heard only scrollable widgets are affected by the problem (i.e. CalenGoo's agenda widget and one variant of the month widget that is displayed row by row).

I.e. the day, week and month widgets of CalenGoo should work fine. Only the scrollable widgets (agenda widget, the row by row month widget, the year widget and the task widget) seem to be affected by the bug in Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 10 devices.

Which CalenGoo widget did you use?

Ohhhh..ok that makes sense why the other widgets work. I use the Agenda widget.

Ok, I turned off the scrollable feature of the agenda widget and the problem has gone away.  Not an ideal solution...

I did notice something odd.  Since I cannot use a scrollable widget I decided to make the widget size larger and show 2 days of events and tasks.  On the second day, I noticed the date header is not displayed.  Is this a bug?

It depends how you have configured it and which widget you are using. It is possible to remove the date headers in the configuration of the agenda widget. If everything seems to be correctly configured and you still don't get a date header, please email me a screenshot of the problem and your settings:

You can create a screenshot by holding the "on/off" and the "volume down" buttons at the same time for about half a second. Then you can send it by email to me.

Tap "Settings > Display and Use > Maintenance > Export settings > File/Email > Send email" in CalenGoo to email me your settings.

Thank you very much!

Hallo,

To inform all users here who are waiting for a solution I wanted to mention that the Huawei support has confirmed the problem and plans to fix it with a future update. This is what the Huawei support wrote (it was forwarded to me):

Tut mir leid, dass wir Ihnen keine Antwort gegeben haben und, dass Ihre Widgets nicht wie gewohnt funktionieren.
Der Fehler wird in einem kommenden Update behoben. Daher bitte ich Sie um noch etwa das Geduld.

I hope Huawei will fix it soon.

If you're rooted, you can freeze the system app "Power Genius" and all is good again. Doesn't seem to affect battery life either -- although I also use Greenify

Great, thank you very much for this hint! So Huawei has to update/fix the "Power Genius" app and then it should work correctly again?

Thank you for mentioning this solution! If you have further information please post it here, too. :-)

A user has reported today that it works correctly again with Huawei's "Huawei EMUI Build 8.1.0.120 (C432)" update! :-) Please install the update if you have problems with scrollable widgets.

It seems that Huawei hasn't fixed the bug yet. I have got a few reports from users that even with the newest Huawei updates scrollable widgets still don't work correctly. That means until Huawei fixes the problem the only solution is to root the phone and freeze the "Power Genius" app.

I have seen two reports now where users said that Huawei has fixed the problem with an update. The update will probably not be available for all devices immediately but it seems that they have found and fixed the bug and will release updates for their devices in the next weeks.

Hi!

It seems that Huawei has fixed the bug in their update (which will hopefully become available for all devices soon) but it seems to be nevertheless necessary to exclude CalenGoo from the battery optimizations on some devices. A user has told me what you have to do to exclude CalenGoo:
  1. Start the "Settings" app.
  2. Tap "Apps & Notifications"
  3. Tap "Apps"
  4. Tap "CalenGoo -> App Info"
  5. Launch --> Switch from "Manage Automatically" to "Manage Manually" and enable all 3 switches
I hope this helps! Please tell me if you still have problems with the widgets!

Kind regards

Dominique Gunia
