Category confusion

My APPTS are supposed to be under the email of melk...@gmail.com, while my TO DO are supposed to be under james...@gmail.com. 

I cannot tell any difference between the events "Nick & Jim: Lunch" and "Blossoms: Nail Cut" on this day. They are both under the email melk...@gmail.com. 

But when I isolate the two tabs APPTS (which should be melk...@gmail.com) and TO DO (which should be james...@gmail.com), I get this:

Why does the Blossoms event only appear when both tabs are active? Why doesn't it appear under APPTS?

I have not been able to locate the setting that defines these tabs. I found this setting, but it doesn't show me anything that explains what is going on.

does "Blossoms Nail Cut" maybe belong to the blue "TO DO" calendar but has an individual color set (red)?

can you please stay in this conversation instead of responding to the "Abridged summary" email of Google Groups and this way creating a new conversation?

So you said that only if "APPTS" and "TO DO" are both turned on, some of your events appear. In your screenshots I can see April 13th with both turned on and with "TO DO" turned on (for "APPTS" you showed a different day so that I cannot compare that). On April 13th the red "Business things to do" is visible despite "APPTS" is turned off. Please switch to the "day" view and check if "Business things to do" is displayed there, too, while "APPTS" is turned off. I would like to figure out if the problem is in the agenda view or in the calendar selection bar.
