Replacing the Calendar app on Samsung phones doesn't work without rooting
the phone. The app should be renamed to some other name than "Calendar".

Did you successfully rename it? Please subscribe to caldav4j mailing list
so that we can discuss a bit on that.

Samsung Galaxy S2
android 2.2.3 rooted

I renamed it to TouchWizCalendar.apk so as to replace Samsung
TouchWizCalendar.apk
It worked. I installed it with FileExpert.
But I need to start it manually.
It synced with my CalDav server : Owncloud

But Problems :
- after sincing It only displays My Calendar and not all calendars
- in + options "Agendas" doesn't work : force close
- there is a funny display on top of calendar all width of display : DEL
and under an arrow with an X inside

I have an Eclipse environnement installed. I am noob, but will try to
recompile to see what comes out.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.1) and tried to use Calendar.apk.
Installing worked fine, but if i start the app nothing happens (except
displaying "Kalender wurde leider beendet", app stopped running).
Renaming the file before installing didn't work either.

Is this a bug or is caldav4j not compatible with Android 4?

I think that the calendar app has not been tested with ICS.

I CC'd Sudheer which is the maintainer of the APK. Maybe he can help.

Peace,
R.

@michael I have the same problem here, I think it is a compatibility
issue. :/

Some weeks ago I tried to compile it with Android 4, but it failed due
to the high consumption of memory during compiling (Google recommends
16GB).
I don't know if this would fix it, but maybe someone else could try to
recompile it with current sources.

Did you try to build it with a lower level of parallelism?

The original instructions are obsolete since CalendarProvider is now public.
Pull the new source tree and build it as an APK and you can use it on non
rooted devices as well. The new APK will not replace the Calendar but will
compliment it with caldav.

I will update the instructions soon..
