I'm new to Calc Zero & have a question that may already have been
answered but cannot find it in this group discussion if it has. I just
bought Calc Zero because I'm an architect & hope to use my new iPhone
as an architectural calculator. How do I add or subtract measurements
consisting of feet, inches and fractions thereof? Eg: 5' 3-1/2" + 27'
8-7/8" = ? Also, can I perform such a calculation using RPN?

Hi. First of all, many apologies that this post didn't come through
sooner. I have been remiss in my group moderation duties (almost all
the pending message requests I get are for spam, so I have gotten into
the bad habit of ignoring them). Anyway, to answer the question--in
RPN, you would use the following keystrokes to add the two foot/inch
measurements (using Length mode):
// enter first operand
[5] [foot] [3] [.] [1] [/] [2] [inch] [+]

// enter second operand
[2] [7] [foot] [8] [.] [7] [/] [8] [inch] [+]

// add them together
[+]

Now Calc Zero will display the result in one of several different ways

normal component
frac 33 1/32 ft 33ft 0 3/8 in

dec 33.0313ft 33ft 0.375 in

Toggle between fractional and decimal display using the frac/dec key.

Toggle between normal (feet) and component (feet-inches) display by
tapping the [foot] key.

Obviously, you can also view the result in inches, meters, Angstroms,
or any other length unit by tapping the appropriate unit key when the
result is displayed.

Hope this helps.

Chad

You can't add feet, inches, thumbs and elbows. Welcome to the metric
system.
