Art Submissions for MCC Art Exhibit: “Matriarchal Narratives"
***SUBMISSIONS WILL BE REVIEWED ON A ROLLING BASIS UNTIL MARCH 31st , 2pm***
Theme: From grandmothers to drag mothers*, we may often experience unexplainable magic bonds with different mother figures throughout life. They can represent the resiliency, wisdom, and warmth that help us grow and learn from all our experiences. “Matriarchal Narratives” hopes to honor those stories by holding space for the narratives that these bonds create through processes of healing, nurturing, and love. We wish to collect and display art that explores various forms of motherhood and reimagines traditional understandings of what motherhood looks like, while acknowledging that mothers can and do transcend gender, sexual, and parental identities and human experiences. Through this exhibit, we want to recognize the importance of the energies and gifts that are taken for granted all too often. We open the space to different lived experiences surrounding mothers and motherhood to shed light on the stories, bonds, and complications that we honor and celebrate.
*Mothers: We italicize mother as a way of contesting the nature of preconceived notions of who does and can embody the role of a mother
Who can submit: Anyone! Includes students and community members.
What medium: We welcome artists of various mediums including but not limited to paintings, sculptures, poetry, photography, and more.
What we ask: Artwork must be ready to hang/display. Artist is responsible for delivery of art-work by April 3rd, 3pm
If you are interested in submitting, please email your work to us at artcommi...@gmail.com and fill out the form below

The Multicultural Community Center (MCC) puts on art exhibits run by and for students and community members. We aim to provide a platform for artists who engage with transformative anti-oppression principles that encourage the use of art as a tool for empowerment, resistance, and engaged learning. Submissions will be reviewed and selected by the MCC Art Committee (a student-led collaborative committee) based on relevance to theme, ease of installation, and artistry. Artists will be notified by the April 1st of acceptance into this show. We apologize in advance that we are not able to accept every piece submitted. They will be kept on file for future shows. Thank you!
