Hello Again, Please let me know if you have any agenda items for our
August 27th meeting. So far, Johanna and Jan maybe giving a brief
presentation of their upcoming workshop on collaboration. To date we
have discussed the strengths of the project, last month we went over
common pitfalls including the need for education and shared/common
language, as well as the need to develop a shared commitment and
process for civic engagement, especially with and for our government
partners.

Some things to discuss or think about:
1. Decision on the Organizations structure
2. Funding- Contributions received to date- will this build our site?
4. Let's Build Something- What does this site look like to you?
5. Staff and Volunteers- Can everyone chip in?

Just a quick final update, I had a great meeting with the FOCUS board-
Thank you Jan and Johanna! What a wonderful group, I could not have
imagined their generous hospitality and have great hope that a
connection was made between Calaveras Connects and Focus.

I am also scheduled to meet with the Deputy Director of Public Works
and members of his staff to see what their community outreach needs
are and how they might be able to see themselves playing a role in a
project such as this. A county government perspective will be
critical and I am excited about their willingness to learn more about
the project! I have shared this project with Supervisor Callaway and
she has asked to remain on our email list to receive updates about the
project. Great news on both fronts!

One of my goals as we move forward is that we are able to bring County
Government into the loop gathering information on their needs and
expectations so that this truly is a neutral platform for information
sharing - Building capacity on both sides, citizens and government,
will be a unique balance.

Thank you, thank you! Hope to hear from you soon, Melissa

Melissa,

Congratulations on your continued progress. It's exciting to see the
positive reception you're getting.

I have to be in Sacramento on August 27, so won't be able to attend the
meeting. I'm interested in finding out more about what kind of help you
need in item 5 - Staff and volunteers. I may be able to contribute some
help as my time permits.

Great ideas, Melissa.  I love your idea about the Health Care Forum and I suspect Mary Boblet has contacted you.  She is planning some sort of forum.  Also, do you all know about the Town Hall Meeting on Aug. 22 at Jackson Town Hall with our Representative from Congress, Dan Lungren.  Health Care will be on the agenda there.  There is fear that it may turn ugly because the "Tea Party" folks will probably be demonstrating and there will be people who support the proposed bill(s).  I'm suggesting that anyone who goes behave civilly, but all points of view should be aired and discussed!  The Calaveras Connects Website would be a great place to have dialog about it before the actual meeting.

Glad to hear about the excellent meeting with FOCUS.  They are a model organization in our county (and Tuolumne).  It does seem that there is potential for good things to happen.  I hope CAP (Community Action Project) can play a role too!

Thanks, as always, for all your hard work, Melissa!  Congratulations.
