Berkeley reaches STARS Gold
UC Berkeley earned a high Gold rating in the Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, which is used by more than 900 colleges and universities around the world to establish their environmental, economic and social sustainability bona fides. Berkeley's 78.5 point score came in 11th highest of all colleges and universities with an active STARS rating!

Chou Hall certified Zero Waste & LEED Platinum
Now the country’s greenest academic building!
Chou Hall at Berkeley's Haas School of Business is officially the country’s greenest academic building, having earned TRUE Zero Waste certification at the highest possible level along with a LEED Platinum certification for its energy efficient design and operation. Haas is also pursuing a third designation, WELL certification, given to buildings that promote user health and well-being. The TRUE Platinum Zero Waste certification came after more than a year of dedicated waste sorting, composting, and other efforts to divert over 90 percent of Chou’s landfill waste.

Capital Projects Green Department Certification
Capital Projects has completed their fourth Green Department Certification earning the highest level of distinction and demonstrating a deep dedication to environmentalism.
CP is minimizing energy use and climate impacts from appliances and lighting. They are reducing waste by securing department-wide composting and recycling bin systems, instituting electronic plans and signatures to reduce paper, and promoting supply and furniture reuse. The CP Green Team, the heart of the operation, is actively engaging their community in making operations, purchasing, meetings and events sustainable.

Andreas Wanke, Head of Sustainability at FUB
From Energy to Sustainability Management
As the core of the science and education system, universities play a key role in shaping sustainable development. Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) is committed to this responsibility. Andreas, head of the Unit for Sustainability and Energy Management will present the milestones and main outcomes of this process and focus on the energy efficiency programs and their bonus scheme for energy conservation. He will discuss the University Alliance for Sustainability, which could be a future platform for cooperation between UCB and FUB. This event is brought to you by the Office of Sustainability.

BERC Summit 2019 includes a keynote from Kevin de León
BERC Energy Summit
Thursday, Feb. 21st- Friday, Feb. 22nd
The BERC Energy Summit, now in its 13th year, is the largest student-run energy conference on the West Coast. This year’s event will focus on the theme, “Bringing Energy Communities Together for Innovation.” The event draws around 500 students, researchers, clean technology entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the world's most pressing energy challenges each year.

Interactive Discussion on Promoting Student Engagement and Leadership in Global Sustainability

During the summer of 2018, The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) supported three UC Berkeley students in their travels abroad: one to Sweden to attend the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) conference; and two to Thailand to attend the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) Field Research Course. These students are now presenting their work and reflecting upon their summer travels to increase UC Berkeley students’ global action leadership through participation in IARU programs and cultivation of this citizenry on campus and in the community.

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF)
Spring Grant Cycle Now Open
Join these great sessions to learn how to develop your sustainability idea into a successful funded project! TGIF grants are open to faculty, staff and students.Workshops will be held in bNorth of MLK Student Union, Room 82D
