Yes, WaveCenter with the Apogee FC-8 will do the job. BUT, then again,
for that, why not go with the MOTU 2408. You get so much more and the
ability to change to and from any format you want. I think that's a smarter
choice right now...

I was actually responding to the suggestion (I forget by who) to get a WaveCenter and an Apogee converter. Last I checked, the Apogee converter (FC-8?) was in the neighborhood of $400. The Tascam IF-TAD does the same thing for $250 less.
True, an ADAT<=>TDIF converter would be of no use with a Card-D. If you want to go digital from DA-x8 to HD, you're going to have to get a different soundcard, and right now the WaveCenter / IF-TAD combo is the cheapest way to go - only $650.

I got mine from a local place here in Seattle called Pacific Pro Audio, but I've seen them at Guitar Center for the same price.
