Thanks.

I can say with absolute certainty that the DSPF and Athlon work great
together.
I've got that exact combo sitting right next to me.

Asus K7m. (version without onboard audio)
I assume you are fairly happy with your Athlon???
I have been out of home recording for a while and starting to get back in -
life got in the way. I used to read your posts quite frequently (back in
the Cakewalk 6.0 days), and respect your opinion immensely. I am about to
upgrade my tired AMD K6-233 to an Athlon. I plan on going with an 800mhz
T-bird, with either an ABIT or ASUS board - as soon as the dang things hit
the streets anyway. I am assuming with this combo, and a Maxtor 30 to 40
gig ATA66,7200rpm drive (along with Cake Pro Audio 9.0x) I should be free of
most of the latency issues, and glitches that so plagued me in 6.0 with my
little K6. Am I right on this? I know you (and me both) used to be big
SCSI proponents, but today's IDE's are just so dang good it's hard to
justify getting a SCSI (for home use especially).
Any other reccomendations you would care to throw my way??
Thanks,
Chris Blandino

The Athlons are certainly up to the task...
At 800+MHz, you've got a smokin' system!
At 1Gig... you're into the league of a full-blown Pro-Tools 24 Mix-plus
system (DSP Power wise).
That's a heck of a lot of DSP power... for about a grand!!!
Only cost you about $30k for the ProTools rig.... <g>
I think it's time that manufactures take typical DSP alrgorithms to the next
level.
Lexicon would make a killing if they'd jump in and make a DirectX (or VST)
reverb that was bit for bit equivalent to their PCM 91.
