Here's what I have in mind for the group... I'm thinking of having a
hack-a-ton... we'll build an app together...

We'll do it using pair programming (XP), that way we'll be able to
learn from each other. We can have 2-4 hours or more every session.

I'm opening up our office for this... we can accommodate up to 3 or 4
pairs per meetup.

Any thoughts guys?

that's a great idea! i haven't see any meetup/hack-a-ton here doing
pair programming, and that's definitely a good step for this group.

wag na muna tayo gumawa ng napakalaking cakephp project. yung kayang
gawin ng mabilisan at hindi masyadong pinag-iisipan.

Yup, saved the date on my Google Calendar. Thanks JP. Looking forward
to it. See you guys. :)

P.S.
Will we start using the #cakephpugph hash tag on Twitter? I think it's
a good idea.

I think one good small project to talk about in our first meet-up is a
formal CakePHPUG-PH website/webapp, so we can practice/tinker any
technology deemed useful that we can build on top of CakePHP. What do
you say?

Furthermore, making the website will establish the fact that we want
to be a distinguished CakePHP group within the country/region, and
that we can showcase our apps on CakePHP.org.

Cheers,
OJ

Good day everyone,
I just thought of something while drinking my coffee this morning.
Regarding the project that we will be working on, I suggest we work on
a component (or plugin) instead of a whole application. I think there
are still a lot of common web app stuff that CakePHP doesn't handle
out of the box, and I think we will give back more to the general
CakePHP community by creating something that can be used on any
project.

One thing that comes to my mind right now is an image uploader or
image field component, which will hopefully abstract the common things
we do when uploading images. For example, in a typical CMS
application, we have to upload, resize, (and maybe copy the image),
and store the filename to the database. When the database entry is
deleted, we also need to delete the actual image. Of all these
actions, I think the only significant part is we know the image
filename that is stored in the db and the rest should be done
automatically. I haven't checked yet if there is already a component
that handles all these things well, but it's just an example of what
we could do.

What do you think?

Tonio

novembe...@gmail.com

I think the plugin/component is a great idea. As for the image, we
have been using a component that does that except the resizing. pwede
cguro ntin pagsamahin lahat ng mga existing features ng mga image
component para magcreate ng isang plugin that manipulates images. Just
a thought.

Other ideas nmn, Im thinknig of pluggable content manager. Not a
complete CMS. A plugin lang where you can create contents agad.
Something like Drupal's CCK. or maybe like wufoo.com's form builder.

cheers,
rachel

Good idea, let's put that on the things to discuss list hehe!

Maybe part of the details could be what image library to use (the
php-gd library, the command line `montage`, Imagick or other
interfaces, etc...)

Thanks for coming to the meet guys, phenomenal work.

Here's a short recap of what we discussed earlier.

* JP has added us to his Pivotal Tracker account (http://
www.pivotaltracker.com), be sure to check your e-mail accounts for
confirmation.
* Each of us should think of a project that we can brainstorm on for
the next meeting. We should write User Stories for the tickets/
scenarios on these proposed projects (you may write for 2 projects if
you have the energy).
* On the next brainstorming session, we will elect the proposal which
can act as second project to PWS
- OR -
* Each of us will work on our proposed projects, and reshuffle roles
among ourselves if needed

The last two items need validation from JP and the team, the last
option might be too much to handle.

Cheers and bake on!

Just to add a few things...

Attendees:
- JP Dela Torre
- Jojo Siao
- Ryan Escarez
- Sonny Gauran
- Antonio Sibal
- OJ Tibi
- Rachel Jaro

Food and drinks sponsored by Sonny and PinoyWebStartup

For the next meetup:
- ideally we'll have a meetup at least twice a month (every other Saturday)
- everyone is encouraged to read about extremeprogramming.org. This
will allow everyone to be somehow familiar with the methodology that
we'll be using and hopefully get some insights from each other. I
think it's fair to say that not one of us truly have an in depth
understanding of XP so inputs from everyone would really give us a
better perspective on it.
- since the Pigmata office is a bit small, only max of 10pax for every meetup.
- Jed, hope you can join the next session

Policy on the use of google group:
- should only be used for meetup discussions, ideas for the group, and
web app that we'll be working on. Questions regarding cakephp-related
implementations, troubleshooting, etc... should be done in the
phpugph.com forum

I really hope we'll be able to keep the group active. I appreciate
everyone coming, and Rachel too for travelling from Pampanga.

Cheers!
