Things are still going well. I've been out of town a lot lately, but
I've had plenty submissions to work into the manual, and those
submissions have really been helpful.

Hi all!

I am dealing with the validation chapter. So far, what I have been doing is to find a proper structure for this chapter. Since lot of new functionality has been added to the validation in 1.2, it is going to be significantly larger than the 1.1 validation chapter. After thinking and doing some research on the new validation features, I came up with the following structure:

1. Intro:

this will be a basic introduction to the validation, containing stuffs like what it is, where is it done, feature highlight etc.

2. Syntax:

here the basic syntax for validating a field will be shown. Three different syntax may be discussed, the old 1.1 syntax, single validation rule syntax, multiple validation rule syntax, each with a simple example. It will also discuss the different keys like rule, required, allowEmpty, message, on(may be even 'last' ;))

3. Built-in rules:

This section will contain explanation about all the built-in validation functions (e.g.alphaNumeric, between, cc etc). Each will have example(s) to follow

4. Multiple rules for a field:

How to declare multiple rules for a single field will be discussed here

5. Defining your own rules:

How can someone define there custom rules will be discussed here. Any idea for good example(s)? isUnique() comes to my mind.

6. Calling validation manually:

How to check validation manually (meaning not just before save()).

Please, let me know if I missed anything imp, and also suggest cooler names for the section headings.

@John: This is where I am till now. Once, I am happy with the structure, I will start with each section, one at a time :)

have 10-12 assignments, but only three responses. If I don't hear

Hi John. Sorry about the delay on my part. Work and family life has
been very busy lately and haven't been able to get anything done as of
now.

I will be taking some quiet time this weekend to come up with a rough
outline.

I'm going to put more effort into this, but the going might be a bit
slow, as I'm new to cake and have to pour through the API a bit more
to make sure I've got a good grasp of the FormHelper.

I'm not sure if I signed up for anything at this point. I am
starting to rework the cake php bundle for textmate, to bring it into
complience with 1.2 as well as better conform to the textmate
standards (so they will take it out of review) Also I'll probably be
taking a look at the cake cheatsheet and updating it as well
