It was great to see the boys on the field again! Despite the losses,
we saw some good heads-up play, great catches, good throws, and hits.
We turned grounders to the base for outs, caught pop-ups, a few long
balls in the outfield, and made great throws to first, third, and a
few times home that were spot on to make some outs.

We are learning a few things at this league and level - stealing and
lead-off is one. We'll continue to work on that in practice. Our goal
is to get the boys familiar with good base-running technique. We'll
also be improving on how to hold runners on their bases - we actually
did pretty well with this, but suffered a bit in the second game when
the opposing team took a pretty aggressive approach, even in their
last inning when they were ahead. We'll use this as a teaching moment
with the boys, I was impressed by several of them complimenting
players from the other team as we walked out - good sportsmanship is a
great lesson.

We noted this had an impact on the game time - with more time spent in
pitching wind-up and in throwing to the bases from home and the mound.
We only played 4 innings the first game for example. I'll be adjusting
the roster approach in an attempt to keep the kids rotating in case we
don't get to the later innings.

Reminders:

PRACTICE - Saturday at 11 AM - 12:30 - Cornelia Elementary Fields
GAMES - Sunday Noon and 2 PM - Eden Prairie BE THERE AT 11:30 AM

We'll play both at Miller Park in Eden Prairie:

It was nice for the boys to get out there an hit today.  Much better day with baseball.  Some improvement with fielding -- need backing up and accurate throws - catching fly balls - they would really make great strides.

Hunter hurt his arm - he started to have pain in the forearm before pitching.  He has a sprain and is in a temporary cast for about a week and will need a little physical therapy to get back in shape.

Hope the 2nd game ended well.

We should see you Saturday.

Julie.
